I have an o ring chain. The local wholesale dealer in my city sells 400ml cans at Rs180/-
Well WD40 cleans very effectively, but a little too effectively it seems! Read a lot about this, and what i learned is that WD40 is too strong a cleaning agent, and it damages the rubber O-rings which are supposed to seal lubricant inside them. So I'd suggest you use that excellent cleaner on stuff other than your bike's o-ring seal chain!

Guys, I use the OKS chain spray, but for cleaning it I use a brush (used toothbrush)...Now when I asked the Bajaj service centre mechs, they told me that they use diesel to clean the chain and use a cloth to wipe the dart...Is it okay to clean your chain with diesel, when you want to do it yourself?

Im Using Gulf Oil Multi functional fluid for my Pulsar 180 chain. it is very good and cheap. but this will not come with a straw (pipe) to spray, so there is always a chance of over spraying it.

I've tried cleaning it with diesel and a toothbrush, and it works just fine. In fact, apart from the chain cleaning spray from Motul, diesel and kerosene are the two safest fluids you can use to clean your bike's chain. Just give the chain a good rub with the brush, a section at a time, wash it down with a spray of water, and then wipe it with a lint-free cloth and let it dry in the shade before you lube the chain..and you're done!!

Just go to any china shop(the 65rs china shops where they sell small small household items). ask them for a small oil can. it will hardly cost you 5rs. This will be very useful. let me see if i can find a pic of it

Ok I read about WD40 on O ring chains. On a forum, i guess ZX10R forums a guy had shot a mail to wd people asking about the same. They said the spraying won't be damaging any rubber seals unless the seals are kept immersed in the WD40 liquid for days together. There a lot of people were using wd40 on their chains. Many pointed out that WD40 displaces the factory lubrication under the O rings which is bad as no amount of lube spraying is going to penetrate the o rings. WD 40 can be used to clean non O ring chains very effectively hence.

This might sound very stupid but i dont clean my chain before lubing it.
I just apply the SAE90 oil very generously (very very generously) after a 5-10 warmup of the bike.
I leave the bike alone with the center stand engaged for the rest of the day. and LO! it seems to work great everytime. I didn't have a single problem with the chain ever since i bought my bike
P.S: comments are welcomed because i still think what i do is stupid

Thats not stupid. Thats exactly what I do. And my stock chain lasted 23k.. so fair enough.. and effort/manpower/time/money saved. But 'very very generous' application of SAE90 doesnt help much, most of it drips off anyways .

P.S.: My chain gets cleaned at every service.. i.e. every 2.5k km.

                          chain lubricating

Hi there the friendly FZ 16 mechanic at my Yamaha service center first cleans the chain with old tooth brush and kerosine, than wipes it carefully with a rag & then sprays it with Motul Chain Spray. The chain & the rear wheel feels immediately free.I asked the service engineer about the chain spray & he said it was meant for all bikes having exposed O ring chains.I bought the spray online & has been using it for my other bike a CBR 250R cause mechanics & service engineer at the authorised Honda dealrship don`t know or don`t want to use the spray.
The Yamaha service centre charges 100/-for using the chain spray. It`s waxy & white in colour.Do try this method & the spray it frees the rear wheel.
