  • Help : Tyres and oil for CBZ Extreme

Hi guys, I have a 2007 cbz extreme . Did 18k on the odo. I need help/suggestions regarding the following issues :

    1) Planning to change the tyres. Reason : They've developed cracks and i guess the rubber would've become hard by now thereby affecting the grip. What do you guys recommend ? Should i take it for some more km's before changing the tyres .. what is the average life of a tyre ?

Please suggest good alternatives to the tyres. I was thinking of Zapper FS for the front and Zapper Q for the rear
    MRF Tyres

Please let me know if there are any good alternatives. Max price : 1500

    2) Which oil would you recommend in semi/techno or fully synthetic range . ?
I was using Petronas sprinta till now and just brought a can of Motul 5100 15w50 . The recommended grade is 10w30 . But Motul's brochure recommeded this grade for cbz x .

    3) For ppl from hyd- Is there any store where i can get riding gloves. Need to check them personally before buying.
guys..if you ever need blood or want to donate blood, please refer to this site :

Do you ever notice that when you're driving, anyone going slower than you is an idiot and everyone driving faster than you is a maniac ?

in less than 1.5/- you will get stock tyres only or some from ceat/dunlop

raise your budget and go for tubeless
      M45 rear and M35 front

way better and lighter than stock tyres, worth every penny.

Kaka give me the link where motul recommends 15W - 50 for CBZ X

if it comes to engine oil remember xx W - yy the first xx value can be changed but the value followed by letter W should not be changed.

motul has the following for you try it

        Fully synthetic = 300V 5w - 30
        5100 10W-30
        Motul Mineral 3000 4T Plus 10W30

Dont play with engine oil grade because its the blood for your bike where you know engine is the heart

Could you please give me more information regarding tubeless tyres. Even a link would do

It would be great if you can give me the approx price and the benefits over the regular tyres.

I know one shouldn't mess around with the grade. There's no link .. I saw it in front of the motul distributor for hyderabad's shop. There was a flex which mentioned the compatibility between various oil grades and bikes. Am sure a respectable company like motul would've taken due care before printing such details. My bad didn't take an image of it.

A friend recently switched to motul 5100 15w 50 and found it better than petronas sprinta fs

Please don't switch the grade instead switch the brand and type that will do better.

you can try synthetic type and try brands such as motul or gulf

HH, Honda, suzuki are based on Japanese Engine and most of the brand with JASO MA2 Standard will do good for you.

The Tubeless Revolution - Advantages of a tubeless tyre over conventional tube tyre

Tubeless Tyre, Tyre dealer, Tyre selector

Tubeless tyre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tubeless tyres is the right choice for city and highway vehicles, bikes as well as cars.

              Michelin M45 (4.00 ie 100/90 R18) is 2350/- in Mumbai
              M35 should be 2000-2100/-

I know it's way more than your budget but this consider this

Usually, we have to change the tube when a nail punctures the tyre, cause it makes multiple punctures before we com to halt. The rotating tyre, with nail in it, and the deflated tube inside cause this.
the tube costs 150-175 /- depending on the brand and the greed of the tyre-anna, labor extra. so it comes to about 200-250/- for one time. couple of more in tubetype tyre's life and you match the price of Tubeless tyre.
If you can learn, you can repair tubeless tyre's puncture by yourself. It's very easy.

Also tubeless don't go flat immediately on puncture. this avoids accidents. consider the cost of it. In fact most of the times, we don't come to know about the puncture for weeks. even then you can keep filling the air and ride till you get back home or tyre-anna.

Many other benefits are explained in the links I've posted. google for more.

I have been using Petronas Sprinta for more than 10000 Km and noticed abnormal tappet problems(getting loose in every 2000 kms). Then used Motul 5100 and really, really happy with that oil though at the beginning I was worried with the grade. But my bike - HH Hunk(18K on the odo) accepted it happily. Now I can revv the engine till 9500 rpm and my speedo touched 120.
The just for experiment, I used 300V for last 100km and found that the oil is not as good as the 5100(actually the oil is good, but not felt so good in HH Hunk engine) as the engine is stalling unnecessarily - probably the oil is not circulating properly and I had to increase the idle rpm also. So, today I am planning to change it to 5100.

                    So, my take is 5100.

I don't think that Motul recommended the oil officially since the recommended grade for HH xtream is 10W30 - as set by Hero Honda.

But the mother company, Honda has recommended 20W40 for their Unicorn. We all know that CBZ X shares the same engine with Honda Unicorn. This things has been clearly mentioned in the Unicorn's owners manual.Honda does not seem to be strict in engine oil grade in Unicorns case.

KAKA@ But I think if 10W30 is available, then it would be better to go for it. But.... still..... I am happy with Motul 5100.

I am using Motul 5100 15w50 as of now. Just did 150 km after the oil change. . so I can't really comment how good/bad it is. But till now who so ever has used on an extreme hasn't given a bad experience. Hopefully the same should happen with my bike. In case the ride becomes rough, I will switch back to Petronas Sprinta .

Yes Motul did recommend this grade for CBZ Extreme. There was a huge flex of motul in front of the distributor's store in Hyderabad.

I have one more query. Got my bike serviced last week at castrol bike zone . They did a decent job. But the mechanic there was telling me that there was slight unusual noise from the engine which could be due to a problem in connecting rod. and he was like it is a problem of the connecting rod and u better get the engine opened and get it checked before the damage increases and was quoting 8k-10k to open the engine and replace the connecting rod and other necessary parts. He claims that the connecting road has developed problems and the sound is due to it and was telling me to get it checked with any other mechanic and then confirm it. Any pointers regarding this ? I have maitained my bike very well .. did only 18.5 k km in 3.5 years, got it serviced regularly .. have been using Fully synthetic oil from 8k onwards.
What could be the possible reasons for the problem or is he misguiding me ?

Check it with your known good reliable local mechanic and see if he says same or not also take his opinion on what has to be done

long back once the dealer quoter 7000 rupees for some repair work on yamaha rx100 where the local mechanic fixed it for less than 700 bucks

Dont trust those castrol guys---just get your bike examined by a head mech in any HH SC first .

Regarding engine oil i have had no problem using the 10W 40 grade oil in my bike---i have seen a guy who is using castrol 20w 40 in his xtreme with no problem whatsoever (he has done like 30000+kms).

Yesterday i saw MOBIL 10w 40 fully synthetic oil its selling for Rs 800...cheaper that Motul.

The problem is i switched to castrol bike zone from HH SVC because the mechanic's at the service center never did a good job. Now that the mech at castrol has raised an issue, am looking for a reliable mech who can give me a proper answer regarding the various issues.
