just when things started to clear up..............suddenly it became confusing once again......

on reading last few posts......i am again confused....

will it increase low and mid range or top end?

is it a feasible modification to put 180 block piston on 150...

    will reliability be affected?

will my crankshaft and bearings be able to withstand increased pressure?

guys let us arrive at some conclusion.

You can go upto 200 without any issues

      will reliability be affected?
provided the guy who does the work is good this mod should be as reliable as stock

will my crankshaft and bearings be able to withstand increased pressure?
it should be able to withstand the pressure without any issues

guys let us arrive at some conclusion.

ok guys i discussed with my mechanic.....

he says 180 block can be fitted but to fit the piston of 180, connecting rood needs to be changed as guzzon pin of 150 and 180 are of different size.

regarding cam he says it can be fitted.

but he says using 180's block piston on 150 will increase the vibrations a lot.

          wht u guys say.

I dont think so, the gudgeon pins should be of the same size at least upto 200

its a single pot engine its prone to vibes ,if it is done properly it will not vibrate any more than a regular 180

which carbs are you running is it bs26 or bs29 (its better to go for a bs29 from 200 as it flows slightly better) whichever you are using do upjet it slightly after the mod , make sure that the valves are timed and are set properly or it will lead to vibes

I would suggest if you want to change to the 180 block, then change the head along with the valves. Change the con rod and main bearings so that the old ones dont crumble under the increased pressure.

Another major thing is check your clutch, Old 150s used to have a smaller clutch than the 180s. I dont know about your version. Check with your mech and if it does not have the same clutch as the 180 then change to the 180 clutch. it will cost 2500 bucks. Also go for a new clutch damping gear while you are at it.

Make sure you get the clutch timing correct. Otherwise you will end up with a lot of vibes.

BS 29 is now used on all pulsars apart from the 220 and 135. So any will do.

what would be the approximate cost involved.

As I do not know what exactly you plan to do, I'll give you the aprox prices of the parts.

                    Block: 1600 rs for 180, 2200 rs for 200 and 220

                    Head: 1800 rs

Valve kit: 500 - 600 rs including springs, oil seals and locks

con rod and bearings: 1200 rs

                    New crank: 2000 rs

                    220 cam shaft: 450 rs

                    220 or 180 clutch complete: 2500 rs

                    Clutch damping gear: 300 rs

                    bs 29 or bs 32 carb: 2600 - 2900 rs

I sincerely suggest that you go directly for the 220 engine mod if you got cash, it is a bit trickier to do but it is worth it. I have already done this on 3 separate pulsars, 2 being dtsi 150s and 1 classic 180.

thats 13,350.....rupees.....the mod is not worth this much rupees.

we were discussing a mod in less than 5000 rupees.

dude, do not dismiss something before trying it yourself.

Anyways, all you need to convert to 180 is head+valve assy, bore, con rod and bearings. so that should be well under 5000 rs.

i feel the information available here is not conclusive enough, so i have decided .....not to do any modifications....as it may seriously effect the reliability of my bike......0.5 oversize bore and new piston, new valves, stem seals etc will do the job.

can somebody give me information about oversize pistons---0.5 oversize means...??? does it means 0.5 mm oversize in diameter or something else...?? we can go upto how much oversized piston....0.5, 1.0, 1.5.....??

Each step in oversize is 0.25mm...and each bore is normally rated to go upto the 4th oversize.Normally overboring can be done beyond this also, but the case hardening coat on the cylinder wall will be lost and bore will wear out faster than stock.
0.5=0.5mm larger than standard size and is the 2nd oversize.
