  • Apache 150 getting whistle sound from engine head

    Hello everyone,

I am not so technical person to explain things better here but I will try my best to explain...

I own TVS APACHE 150, its been 5 years and there's no problem with the bike, recently there was oil leak from engine head and I took it to tvs service center and the mechanic replaced head cap (black colored) and some chain in head... and from then the problem started, it is making whistle sound, getting sound from engine head....I took it to mechanic and he says even he don't know...!!! what I should do now....

tell the mechanic to check the auto tensioner of the cam chain.. it could be rubbing against the chain at a wrong angle to make the whistling noise.

is ur bike running fine with Whistle sound..? i mean How's engine performing..? is it normal..? i suspect its becoz of wrong valve clearance ask mechanic to do tappet setting using proper equipment and gauges .
Its not enough to know how to twist the throttle; you must have judgement to know when and where to do it.

Your valve clearances are not set properly
As its Apache 150 and not RTR,
Set valve clearances as intake-0.06 and exhaust-0.1
Ensure the setting is done at compression TDC and with gauges.
There's lot to it other than saddle....

^^this might be one of the reasons........

how is the performance of your bike......??
has your mechnic installed some part incorrectly? get it checked by a reliable mechanic.

                how loud is the sound?
does it come only when you close the throttle while running the bike....or always....

does your bike has a balancer shaft because in pulsar when balancer shaft wears out it produces a similar sound when you close the throttle at moderate speeds.

Sir I've the same whistling sound in my Apache RTR 200. It happens only when I close the throttle during idle and maybe sometimes at low speeds. But i find the sound to be extremely cool. Lol. I have no clue whybthis happens, so please guide me on this matter.

Maybe it even happens at high speeds but it probably sinks in the exhaust note. I can confirm that the phenomenon happened from day 1. The bike does have a counter balance which is the reason behind it's refinement.

The engine also produces a whining noise when revving at lower gears.

How about the disc noise ? Is it ok , at what situations it arises?

I've heard that dirt/mud accumulated in the disc generates the noise .
IDK much, am yet to buy a Apache 160 4v (dual disc) variant soon.

Yup that's just the mud getting in between the brake pads and disc. Don't worry it's normal. Just spray it away with a water jet. If it still wouldn't go then ask the SVC guys to clean it for you.

Looks like the mechanic has accidentally installed turbo in your bike. Sounds cool bro.

Absolutely correct, do get your valve clearence checked when the engine is cold using feeler gauges. These mechanics just do the adjustment manually. If your mechanic doesn't have feeler gauges, change him or do it DIY.
