  • karizma engine gasping for air or fuel ??

    Guys,

When i strart my ZMA in the morning it doesnt start..no wonder..i believe all ZMAs are like this. So i got used to starting it with choke.

From about a month or so after starting if i rev up the RPM in idle above 2.5K the engine feels as if its gasping for maybe air or fuel (dont know) and sometimes just stalls.
Even if i manage to move the bike after numerous attempts it stalls again if i rev it up again...very frustrating indeed

can someone please shed some light on this? Is this something i can do on my own or should i take it to a mechanic.
The problem with ZMA is sometimes even the HeroHonda service also makes me feel there's no mechanic proficient enough in pune

    Thanks in anticipation
    Ravi

is this happens only on cold starts? use choke and let the engine warm up before riding.

How old is your bike? Have you considered your air filter might need to be changed if its more than 12-15k? Though air filter condition depends on the type of road one is running. Some are dusty while others are cleaner.

I never had this problem in my Zma as I have changed my air filter at around 15k, there was no problem, but I changed them anyway as they are quiet cheap. Though the symptom you described are very similar to problem I had in my Gypsy long time ago on a highway. I just removed my air filter (gypsy) and banged it and marveled at the amount of dust puffing out. After that I put it back and everything was back to normal. I changed the filter later.

Thanks for that. My bike clocked 20,500K till now. I'd consider your advice because nothing was changed in my bike till now.I assumed the HeroHonda Service guys will advise on this when required.
I'll get the air filter replaced and will update.

          Thanks,

@noah2125: Not an expert myself, though its about time to change your air filter or at least give it a thorough clean with high pressure air. Regarding plug, no need to change, just cleaning should suffice unless there is some serious problem. Plugs are suppose to last a very long.

@noah: it might be a tuning issue... take it to the H.A.S.S

@ravi: if you face this problem only during the start up and not after once it had started a good run, then it can be a stuck air bubble, just open the tank cover and close it.
If you face this issue every time you ride get the carburetor tuned..
if it arises only when revved through a certain rpm, get the airfilter cleaned...

THE A S S guy took it for a spin and says the carb is fine and says my clutch plates are old... i said WTH?.. its 16k only.. and i dont feel the slippery revving at all.. its like its having a bubble in its throat all the time.

i looked around the carb and no other screws are available. how ever i got another mech near my area.. he said he would look at the jets tomo.. lets see wat happens next
