AFR Setting on Stunner

    Come on guys help me out!
    Tested with 3 different AFR setting 4.25, 4.5, 4.75 from the closed position.
    My reviews:
    4.25 turns: feels like stock setting, mileage is same as ever, spark plug electrode color is whitish gray.
    4.5 turns: acceleration is little increased than earlier setting or may be same, feels like richer than needed, mileage is same, spark plug color is same.
    4.75 turns: acceleration is poor, feels like too rich, haven't checked the Mileage, exhaust smells pungent, spark plug color is tan.

    @skld: still waiting for the stock AFR position..

      Judging by the color and acceleration your best AFR is between 4.5 to 4.75 turns. Better to stick to 4.5 turns as this setting gives you better acceleration feel and plug is whitish grey...The ideal plug color is Tan(4.75 turns) though at that setting you seem to be getting a bit rich in mix and acceleration is less than 4.5 turns setting.
      Try out acceleration tests with load.ie., with a pillion on up gradient, with both 4.5 and 4.75 turns setting..
      If you are getting Pungent exhaust smell you have either old petrol or your bunk is filling your tank with bad petrol.

        The first pic of your plug shows you have oil on the plug and cylinder threads..the brownish sticky coating is burnt oil....is your oil level dropping in 600 to 800 Kms riding ?When the engine is cold put your finger inside the exhaust hole and rub it against it's inner...when you take out your finger do you see
        1. dry black coating
        2. wet sticky coating
        on your finger ...dry black indicates rich mix and wet black indicates oil is getting burnt in the chamber.
        what is the recommended engine oil and what are you using, for how long ?
        your later pic of plug shows a clean thread of plug...did you change the plug ?

          I'm using the same spark plug I just cleaned it with kerosene.
          Oil level dropped around 50ml after around 1k the oil was power1 15w40. (20w40 recommend)
          Now I'm using yamalube 15w50, (from last 800km) no oil level drop is found after 800km.
          Tested AFR setting with every possible conditions 4.5 turns seems best, but spark plug color is confusing me.
          Found dry black coating at exhaust hole.

            Dry black coating is rich AFR....so your engine is safe and will run cooler..stick to it..I think you should stick to the thicker w50 grade to ensure engine life.
            The AFR screw you are adjusting will adj the mix from 0 to 3 K RPM only ...after that the needle position and main jet will start playing it's part.I guess the 4.5 turns is the best for your engine...
            From the pic of your plug it looks like a projected nose plug...try going for a non projected plug and see the color of plug.
            What is your normal riding RPM and speeds

              what is non projection plug? My city has only a few auto enthusiasts and accessory shops so finding special things are kinda difficult, and i can only find yamalube for xxW50 grade oil, is it safe to use it with minimum temperatures coming near around 5 degree C.
              Under city conditions I don't exceed 4.5k rpm & on highways i stay 5 to 6.5 rpm. And also I'm not a speed freak, but mileage freak.
              But occasionally I go upto 9.5k rpm, redline is at 10k rpm

                If you look at the tip of your plug the center electrode project out by at least 1cm..this is projected nose plug. it delivers the spark a little deeper into the chamber and because of projection into cylinder marginally increase compression and performance.
                A non projected nose is where the center electrode is almost the same height as the plug outer ring and does not project out..this type of plug will not project in to cylinder ,and will run cooler....but performance will be marginally reduced along with Mileage...

                  OT: when is the ideal time for tappet adjustment? Mine is never done, now the odo reads 13600+ but the owners manual says it should be done at 6k interval.. So couldn't resist and poped the question..

                    If you don't hear the tick, tick sound of tappet after a ride then you don't need to touch the tappet .Don't try to fix what is not broken, and is working well.

                      @PSR: I looked for non projected spark plugs but nobody had any idea about what I'm talking.. They sell spark plugs by bike's name..

                        Very pathetic isn't it ?...and when it comes to service or repair what kind of quality in work can be expected ?.. I guess you have no alternative but stick to stock plug...

                            Good you know how to take care of your ride by yourself....Most ASS are just that....Exception is the Ninja's service at PBK which has a separate team for it..

                              I have read cooler air i.e. Denser air need more fuel..

                                Technically you are right. In cold climate the air is dense and need slightly richer AFR compared to Hot climate.....In real world situation unless the difference is larger than 30 C overall, no need for this..Check your plug color ..the ideal color is light Tan.
                                Even varying Height will need different AFR setup ....for instance if you had setup your AFR at Sea Level and happen to travel up a mountain of say 3,000 feet, then you will definitely feel the difference, since air is less dense as you travel higher in altitude....even in such cases we see practically no individual tuning being done..
                                So do not worry much about your AFR set up......just read the plug and set it up for light tan color..
