  • Frequent Gearshifting : 4strokes VS 2 Strokes

I am finding it difficult to ride my p150 in heavy traffic.Gearshifting is more frequent in the pulsar as compared to my RX100.Is this the problem in all four strokes or is it because of low torque?

  • #2
Haven't ridden many two strokes in heavt traffic, but yes atleast the CBZ requires quite a lot of gearshifts in traffic...did not encounter that with the ZMA or the Fiero, don't know abt the 150...so maybe it must be the low-end torque...the techies will know better...

chinoy, of rddreams.com said in a IMcon with me that there was some problem with the crank in the ZMA. what problem? I dont know

also there is a lot of shunting in the ZMA while driving at low speeds, and thats is really bad for a bike of such high specs...

I did not have any such problems with my Zma.... and I know around 5-6 other ZMA owners here in Pune, none are having any such engine related problems / doubts...
What do u exactly mean by shunting ?

I don't think it would matter whether it's a four stroke or two, as far as rideability in traffic is concerned. And neither should the torque be a problem cos as you know, even the scooterettes are a breeze to ride in traffic and have adequate low end torque. But what I feel is that it depends on the gearing of the bike. The gearing of the Pulsars (150 as well as 180) are not suited for in-city riding. It's a known fact. As Nav and other people have said, the 4 speeder of the Fiero is much better in traffic. - MAX.

PS: Never ridden an RX 100 in traffic, so don't know about that.

as max said its all about gearing ... my all the vehicles are good in traffic riding.

The lowest I have gone is almost around 20 in top gear on nv, fiero and rx. Out of then rx and fiero pulls out easily (due to more power) as compared to nvspl.

Tried on friends cbz it coudn't go below 35
Tried on yd1215, goes upto 25 with a pillion quiet comfortably.

gf125 even pulls with a pillion from rest in 3rd and without a pillion in 4th, tried during a test ride [:0]

I have ridden a CBZ in 5th gear at just under 2000RPM at some 25kmh in traffic . No stalling , though accleeration was poor but w/o stumbling or complaints .

Shogun too did go as low as 1800RPM in 4th gear with pillion .
Man will occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of the time he will pick himself up and continue on.

aha! thats not a major problem. can be rectified by making the idling circuit rich. it comes tuned lean from the factory. all you need to do is turn the mixture screw anti-clockwise to make it richer ...

OR get a carb which has a slow speed enricher circuit

which would be a more expensive option!
