Brand new pulsar with an annoying problem.
Hey guys, I got a p150 ug 4.5. About a month old and with about 700 kms on the odo. I have this strange problem that after riding the bike for more than 7-8 Kms, the engine becomes very harsh and also the bike is not as free-revving as normal and the rev's don't come down that fast.I can hear the engine slowly lowering its revves long after i have left the throttle. and also engine braking is reduced. This does not happen when i travel short distances, say about 2kms. Also when i'm climbing flyover's a strange dab-dab sound comes from the engine like its struggling very hard, is this the tappet sound. Is this normal? This is my first bike so i don't know whether this is normal or not? I'm really worried. What could be the problem??

Try replacing the engine with Hero Hunk Engine for immediate relief..Originally posted by easy rider View PostHey guys, I got a p150 ug 4.5. About a month old and with about 700 kms on the odo. my answers in bold.Originally posted by easy rider View PostHey guys, I got a p150 ug 4.5. About a month old and with about 700 kms on the odo. I have this strange problem that after riding the bike for more than 7-8 Kms, the engine becomes very harsh and also the bike is not as free-revving are you using correct grade oil, try shifting to some better oil, like atleast power1 or motul semi synthitic as normal and the rev's don't come down that fast.I can hear the engine slowly lowering its revves long after i have left the throttle check accelerator cable and lever - lubricate or replace also check the spring in carb. and also engine braking is reduced. Also when i'm climbing flyover's a strange dab-dab sound comes from the engine like its struggling very hard, is this the tappet sound. Is this normal? this is not tappet sound, this means you are in wrong gear, you have to shift down one gear. This is my first bike so i don't know whether this is normal or not? I'm really worried. What could be the problem??
also i think, based on your problems, that your oil is not of good quality.
one more suggestion, i will give u, if you are very fond of ripping your bike always pour 100 ml extra oil. it helps to keep engine in good shape.

Shift to a better engine oil as suggested by Princesirohi. Mineral from Motul / Shell will help for sure. Check engine temp, see if gets too hot during normal driving conditions too.Originally posted by easy rider View PostI have this strange problem that after riding the bike for more than 7-8 Kms, the engine becomes very harsh and also the bike is not as free-revving as normal and the rev's don't come down that fast.
This is a matter to worry and I presume its dangerous too. Either your throttle is getting stuck or carb problem. Check this first and see for abnormal rpm spikes.I can hear the engine slowly lowering its revves long after i have left the throttle. and also engine braking is reduced. How hard do you push your bike to climb flyovers ? ( > 4000 rpm). BTW, check your fuel too, adulteration too can cause this strange noise during hard climb. And if you like to rip your new ride, I would suggest to restrain yourself for another couple of months. Cheers. Also when i'm climbing flyover's a strange dab-dab sound comes from the engine like its struggling very hard, is this the tappet sound. Is this normal?

Before any of the above suggestions, I suggest you get the engine checked for proper oil flow to the head, and other parts of the engine. Essentially, make sure that the oil pump is working fine.

Actually this problem is there from day 1 so i don't think it can be the oil, but i'm still thinking of changing the oil once i reach 1000kms(last changed at 550). Can you recommend any oil?? And when I'm climbing a flyover I'm normally in 4th gear at 4000rpm so i doubt I'm in the wrong gear or am I?Originally posted by princesirohi View Postmy answers in bold.

I'll definitely change the oil. And also I'm new to biking(my first bike) so i don't know the normal temperature of a warm engine. How do i know wether an engine is runnig too hot? And yes i'm following the run-in process very religiously.(Want to keep her running good for many yearsOriginally posted by Prith View PostShift to a better engine oil as suggested by Princesirohi. @ easy rider
Whatever oil base you choose, may it be Mineral, Semi-Synthetic or Full Synthetic.
The main thing is the grade, I think Pulsar's 150 go with 15W40, you can also use 15W50 (Motul) no harm.
I have seen a Pulsar DTS-i engine oil which is advertised that the change interval is 10,000Kms and cost is 300rs
(Its total BullSh*t)
