    International driving permit/license

    I'm possibly going to a South-east Asian country on a contract ( 3+ years).I'm currently based in Secunderabad - my address falls under Medchal RTO.
    My DL is from Kochi,Kerala.
    I've read up on the other threads in this forum on this topic like http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/help-me/...mart-card.html

    but still have the following queries
    1. I am unable to make a trip to Kerala to get a clearance cert from the Kochi RTO.Is this a hindrance or can an agent help me out here ?

    2. Can I not keep my old license and get a IDP based on this license from Secunderabad ?

    3. Could someone in Hyderabad point me to a decent agent ?

    4. Is there a difference between IDP and IDL ?

      File for a lost DL or just hold your current DL. Get a new one from Secundarabad ASAP. An IDL is translation of language on your license to English. Check with the country where you will be driving if IDL is permitted or do you need to take a local license from DMV & then proceed accordingly. Do not hurry up for IDL from here as you may not know the laws prevailing over there.
