    Re: Problems with JAWA/Yezdi

Yes, I'm from Bangalore. My Mechanic is Abdul Razak. He is in seshadripuram, behind Natraj theatre. I recently got the carb changed from him to P47Y as I was using a Bullet carb previously. Here is a pic of my bike.

Bike looks good and in original paint. Love the colour.

Talk to lokesh and get the bike to moosa, fix it and ride. Let me know if you need more help.

Hi Srini, I spoke to Lokesh a little while ago and explained him the situation. He said its highly unlikely that the electrical unit is a problem here and that he has never heard of such a problem before. He said it looks like the bike is tuned for better mileage and that could be one reason that its not reaching high speeds. (Above 60 kmph) I'm going to take the bike to Moosa this Saturday. Thanks, Rajesh Menon

              Hi Srini,

Met Moosa and Firoz today. Moosa saw my bike and the first thing he told me is that he remembers this bike and that its first owner was a very old Parsi who was his customer some 7 years back.
He took a round of the bike and said there is no problem, though he didn't get a chance to go beyond 50kmphr. He then asked me the its been recently rebored, which I'm not sure as I got the bike just 2 months back. But i did tell him that the rings were changed and I rode 1100 kms after that. He took a look at the electrical unit and said its just fine. (Kya bhi problem nahi hai) and did some fine tunning after which the bike seems more powerful now and pulls better. He smiled at me told me dont be scared and just pull the throttle, it will go beyond 60 kmphr. I'm going to test it on electronic city flyover tomorrow. Lets see.

The bike still wont go above 60 kmph.

I went back to my mechanic and we finally decided to first test with another spare unit and if the issue is solved, I can go for it.

                lets see.

Looks like a jetting issue if you ask me. Most old people don't want to ride at speeds above 40-50kmph but want more fe out of the motor so they get it rejetted for lower speeds and higher fe.
Also you said its been rebored which means maybe the lathe cutting hasn't been done right. Incorrectly done lathe work leaves the cylinder improperly ported and uneven milling of bore can cause this also.
See if what I said may be the issue.

I don't think its the carb jetting issue and the reason I say that is because I had this same issue when the bike had bullet carb in it.

Then perhaps its the cylinder or could also be that the bike isn't able to breathe right. Of course do check the electricals as they can also be at fault (cb points are usually the problem).

                        Re: Problems with JAWA/Yezdi

Thanks Balgi, few days back I was able to touch 70 , but definitely not the speed to cruise and I didn't feel like pushing further as it felt like I may blow up the engine. I've been advised to use 20W40 grade oil when I'm taking for long rides. (10ml to 1litre petrol) I guess because of the high viscosity it will make the functioning smoother. I'm not sure if this will help. Any comment?

                          Re: Problems with JAWA/Yezdi

Hi. I am facing the same issue. Unable to go beyond 60kmph.
                          Did your issue get resolved?
                          If so, how?
I have changed carburettors, clutch plates, clutch hubs, clutch rods, cables even the bore & piston, but to no avail.
I am at my wit's end & so is my mechanic.

I also know this is a very old thread, but like a sinking man, I am grasping at straws.

Sorry for the delay in responding.
My bike is a 1972 Jawa post market CDI.

The guy Mr. Pathan (Kolhapur) who had done the Electrical stuff has passed away 2 years back.

My mechanic is Mr. Vincy (Mumbai), who had been handling my bike since decades but he knows and understands Points and OG stuff pristinely.

Current set up is not familiar territory.

Calling you - Yes, Please DM me your number.
