  • Performance upgrading Yamaha RXG.

    Hi All,

RXG. Engine is in stock condition with an expansion chamber. It achieves top speed of 110 kmph (on speedo).
Mileage of bike varies between 30 to 41 as per riding style, road condition, etc (you know the rest ).

Now I want to go for some performance modifications without reducing much mileage and engine life.

    Planning to do the following.

    1. Good air filter, UNI or K&N or as per suggestions.
    2. Upjetting the existing carburetor.
    3. Custom reeds.
    4. Expansion chamber.
    5. 5 speed bore, head and piston (luckily I am getting)
    6. 5 speed gear box.
    7. Disk setup in front and rear.
    8. Good tires with grip both on tarmac and concrete.
    9. Digital CDI.
    10. Spark plug.
    11. Sprockets of 5 speeds.

Please let me know pros and cons of each. Or suggest me what I am missing or what I am planning which is unnecessary.

I will not be participating in any rally or drag. I just need my ride to run in parallel to ZMA or somewhat fast , without much pressure on engine, while touring with friends.

Please let me know how to check whether the 5 speed block which I am getting is re-sleeved or not?

Would this block-head-piston-gearbox kit help me in case of performance?

    Is upjetting is reversible?

Does expansion chamber reduce bore life?

@mods: I had to start new thread as none of existing (as per my search ) is not matching to my criteria.

    Thanks.

      Thanks.
First of all check if it is 5 speed block for that you should see 4TL10 132cc on one side the other will have the batch code E-1...E-4. The head bottom should bear '09L' stamp identifying it is a 5 speed head.

If it is re-sleeved or not:- Sorry I have poor knowledge on re-sleeving may be seniors might help answering this question.

Yes, 5 speed block produces 14bhp than 4speed 12bhp so, it should be better in terms of performance. There are members who have taken their 5 speed to greater mods acheiving more power output hence their top speed.

      Upjetting is reversible.

Expansion chamber (EC):- I would not comment as my bike runs in stock chrome pipe. Seniors shall respond to this question.

Last but not the least, don't expect the mileage to be an important factor when it comes to 2 stroke or especially RX mods. Just enjoy the ride.

In order to tell whether the block is rebored or not the block needs to be removed from the bike. The experienced people will be able to tell by just having a look at it. When I asked my mechanic for what needs to be looked for, he said that if the block is rebored the size of the ports will not be like the one on the standard and the metal which the lathe guys put inside the cylinder will not match with the ports on the cylinder, there will be slight deviation.

What I am thinking here is, will installing bigger jets require increasing in size of hole in carburetor where jets are inserted? Please correct me and make this point clear.

Regarding mileage, I am not expecting mileage to drop to 12-15. It should be feasible to suit my pocket as i am using the same for touring too.

Upjetting is like changing the jets to bigger size. There is nothing to do with 'increasing in size of hole in carb.....'

There are different jet sizes available readily, just plug and play the desired.

                  Hi, Hope these answers help.

                  1. Good air filter, UNI or K&N or as per suggestions. - UNI is the best.

                  2. Upjetting the existing carburetor. - upjetting is required with the filter. yes its reversible.

                  3. Custom reeds. - better throttle response.

                  4. Expansion chamber. - better performance than stock silencer if the chamber is made by experts.

                  5. 5 speed bore, head and piston (luckily I am getting) - yes, if you are sure they are genuine.

                  6. 5 speed gear box. - if you are looking for a better top speed.

                  7. Disk setup in front and rear. - only front disc is required and recommended for the above mods.

                  8. Good tires with grip both on tarmac and concrete. - cpl of options available.

                  9. Digital CDI. - Definitely!

                  10. Spark plug. - not required. esp. with the digital CDI.

                  11. Sprockets of 5 speeds. - depends on what kind of performance you want.

Personally i dont like any Bajaj stuff. but yes the parts are cheap. How is the engine and chassis condition now? Where you want to start depends a lot on that.

Engine is smooth with nice pick up as we expect from stock 4speed. chassis is repainted last year. no rust on that.

i want to extract full performance what stock engine can deliver. after achieving this, will go for porting.

this is my idea. please suggest what would be best as per your experience.

If ur bore and piston are in good shape, you can start with the CDI , reeds , UNI, jetting and a good chamber. You also need to keep your budget flexible and go for the best. Dont think of porting till you do all this. If you ever come to chembur, let me know.
