    Q2>>Can i use 15w50?if yes When??and which brand?

Q3>>Which air filter to use (brand)??

    2000

and also changing the oil filter...using YAMALUBE 20 W 40(yamaha mechanic suggested)

Go with this link for engine oil queries..

Regarding oil change you are changing more than actually required.
Dont spend unnecessarily by draining oil every 500 km.
Dont change air filter unless required. It can run atleast for 10k after which clean it & use it again. If you really want to change go for K&N but it will void warranty.
Regarding color fading go for teflon coating & then do wash with detergents or soap. Use vehicle shampoos which are less alkaline.
Use TVS chain spray for dry chain

        1. You dont need to change oil at such frequency. The default company oil is one of the best oil in the market. Follow your regular service interval. How many days old is your bike? How many service has it completed? Which oil did you change to for above mentioned interval? I suggest you stick to 20w40 Yamalube mineral for upto 5k km or first 3 service interval.
Remember: Change oil filter at every oil change/service.

        2. Yes, I am using Yamalube SS 15w50, you can surely go for your 3rd or 4th service interval. But make sure the bike has run on mineral for atleast 2K km.

3.Dont modify air filters. K&N on contrary reduces the vehicles mileage and over heats bikes due to too lean ratio, you may have to adjust AFR for a richer ratio. Plus modified filters let in dust which is bad for engine life!

        4. Dayatona muffler is not street legal. Also its little expensive, just the muffler is not an upgrade unless your bike sees all other necessary upgrade kits! Alternate option is to get in touch with Joel of Race concepts for the muffler kit.

but i am not clear about some facts,as i already purchased motul chain lube
1.what is the duration to clean my chain with chain cleaner and lubricating it?(monsoon and other season also)
2.Teflon coating for one time or in a periodic interval???
3.what abt engine oil brand and grade that i asked?

Chain lubing must be done every 500 km in monsoon and 800 km in other seasons.

Alright. So you have changed the oil 4 times before 1st service?
Not a problem. But from now on, use the oil for atleast 1k km. I prefer you use the defaultYamalube 20w40 Mineral oil for second service interval too. The oil lasts much longer, but I have changed it between 1000-1500km, always change the oil filter too.

After my 3rd service, I started using the Yamalube Semisynt 15w50 because not only it is good for the cold weather morning start here in bangalore, but also keeps engine cool on highway ride for me. Plus the most added advantage is it lasts me till my next service interval of 3000km/70days. So yes, I highly recommend you too use the SS from third or fourth service onwards.

Yes, the dayatona muffler is Street Illegal, if caught you have to cough money to bribe/pay the fine challan which is not as big issue as more importantly, you will loose the insurance cover in case of accident or damage. The stock midship muffler is specifically designed for FZ and is one of the most advanced. I suggest you use the stock setting, unless you are reboring the bike to say 200cc etc.

                  FZ16 Race concept Kits

Motul chain lube is expensive but is one of the best for fast running chains. Did you know? India Yamaha Motor recommends high performance Motul products like Chain Clean, Chain lube, Brake Fluid and Coolant for use in the Yamaha service network. These premium Motul products are imported from Motul, France and supplied to the service network of Yamaha India. Infact the Yamalube engine oil is again manufactured by Motul here in India!

I use a cheaper but equally good substitute that the SVC guys use called Tribocor TC-40 Chainlube Cost around Rs.300 for a 500ml can and still I have about half can left from my first can because I use it very less, I lubricate between 300-500km interval. So if the can lasts about 25 sprays that means about 10000km or a year for me.
Note: Dont spray the chain lube and immediately run the bike, the lubricant needs atleast few hours to dry and stick to the chain, so preferably use chain lube at night so that the aerosol contents evaporate and the sticky content of the lube sticks to your chain.

thanx..as i already purchased motul chain lube and chain cleaner i'll stick to that.there was no English instruction on the can so i was little confused.SVC guys told me the fact motul is manufacturer of Yamalube..but price is low hence it is cofusing to me about the quality..if any one use motul 300v 15W50 instead of YAMALUBE 15w50. is it same fact?

No they are different. motul 300v is full synth. Yamalube 15w50 is semi-synth, comparable to motul 5100. In fact yamalube 15w50 is a re-labeled motul 5100 with slight additive changes.
*Use 20w40 because its lighter than xxW50. Lighter oil means less internal drag (within engine) which results in more mileage, more pick up, free reving engine. Change oil around 2k kms with oil filter.
Use xxW50 if you see oil level dropping (without any leakage from engine) by ~100ml within 1k kms of running.
*Use chain spray whenever you see/feel your chain is dry/harsh/unprotected.
*Dont mod your bike until its warranty expires.

No, the 300v is fully synthetic, it can cause clutch slip, and the oil evaporates faster, the oil is almost double the price of semi synt. It gives u the most smooth ride. But this oil is not recommended till u cover atleast 8k-10k km or 5 services.

                          Hi,

I have been using Motul Fully Synthetic 300v 4T 15W 50 Double Ester for the last 7,000 kms and it is an absolute bliss to run one's bike in.. I completely disagree with Prajnyan in this regard.. No clutch slippage, engine over heating or oil evaporation. Other way round the vibrations go down even further..

My ride's ODO is on 22,000 kms.. 1st time i switched over to FS oil had done a top up of a negligible 30ml at 3900 kms as i was constantly thrashing her for my long distance marathons and then replaced the engine oil at 5,300 kms.. The bike engine is butter smooth and the gears shift effortlessly.. i have documented all my ride's ownership history on FZ thread so can be checked by anyone who is interested.. Motul FS oil has been specifically designed for motorcycles so unless a user has accidentally used a car based FS oil or has busted piston rings, not taken care of basic periodic servicing needed by the ride.. there is nothing wrong using it in an FZ engine.

On a personal note i would recommend switching over to FS from Mineral oil after your ride has finished 2nd servicing/ 3000 kms..

                          Cheers,

I did mention that the ride would be really smooth! Also that it costs double the cost of an SS.

I would prefer he uses mineral for first two service, then semi synt for next one or two, after which he can switch to fully synt.

We don't know how many km he intends to use the bike every month. Also since yamaha service manual suggests you must do oil change every 3000km, not changing oil since its fully synt can be held up by the svc if you try claiming warranty in future.

Moreover fully synt is useful if I ride like you suggested about 100km a day, then 5-6000km once oil change in 2 months would really make sense than changing mineral oil every 15days.

But for most, the SS gives much better performance than an mineral and for its price it is a better deal too as it lasts much longer than the 70days/3000km interval so we can easily use the oil for one service interval.
There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.
