  • Remote Starter & Autocop

    Hey Guys!

I own Yamaha FZ 16 from about one and half years now. I am comparatively new to bikes and biking!
Recently in a conversation with a friend i heard about this Remote starter thing for the bikes(Honestly initially it was tough for me to digest the fact the bikes can be started without putting your 'KEY' and turning it to ignition!!! )

I have a few questions about this thing,

    1. Is this autocop thing ok to put in my bike? meaning what are the downsides of installing the Autocop?

    2. I believe it comes with the car kind of Alarm thing also(if somebody touches the bike it start screaming :O ) can i disable that whenever i want and still remotely start my bike?

    3. this is a silly Question :P but can i rev once the bike is started using the same remote? :P

    4. Also can you suggest me some good brands of autocop??

Thanks a lot in advance guys!!!
Keep Biking! Peace for all !!

not at all reccomended to use such things for bike,as it'll drain the battery in about a month or two
AFAIK you can only start the bike and wont to able to rev it

Exactly... Such things will completely drain out ur battery..
And no such things cannot Rev your engine. it can only start your engine from some distance... But think logically, why do you even need such feature. It wont contribute anything.

1)A couple of friends of mine (having p220 and a RTR160 converted to dc) has put autocop on his bike. No battery drain issues till now.
2)Yes, you can disable wherever you want to and with the click of a button anytime provided you are in a distance proximity specified in the alarm system.
3)Yes you can start the bike with the key as well but the start up is short lived and switches off after sometime.
4)no idea about brands, many have flourished Indian markets. So you can chose a good one from a trusted dealer/shop (PRICe MAY VARY FROM rs1200 to 4000)

its rather strange that revving is not allowed!!!
Its been 4yrs of this security system installed on my bike and i never had any issues.. Mine is a minda unit.
I frequently used to remote start the bike and potter arround for hours on this... The remote start simply provides the ecu the signal that the ignition key is on.. Nothing else.
it will never harm your bike/ecu...

Also, unless you activate the touch sensor and put it at a very sensitive level, battery drain should not happen...

i have heard that these make a mess of the wiring, and create issues later.
like local mechanic won't be able to easily locate a wiring fault, if it happens.

plus children like to play with it, they will touch it and siren goes, siren stops children touch again....kind of...

@Rockrz: plz give more information about your system, brand, model, price, purchased from..??

what are the facilities provided in it.? what are the benefits, specially of auto start. etc

I've been using a remote alarm system on my Discover 135 since the last 3 years, only times the battery drained out was when the bike had not been used for more than 2 weeks at a time. I've also modded the electrical to full DC with 55/60w philips h/l.
Mine costed around Rs. 600 + Rs. 100 fitting, provided with 2 remotes. I must mention that I've never had to replace the battery inside the remote all this while.

From my experience, I can say that it's safe. Sorry, I don't remember the brand of the alarm I'm using.

@princesirohi Yesterday i went enquired with my yamaha dealer he showed me a couple of them and he said he would do the fitting himself and was charging 250 for fitting alone! the brand was Xenos.

@Abhijeet That is ok, will find out about the brands Thank you!

Do we get any type of security device for bike which has proximity dependent (sort of proximity sensors)?
We had one in our car which had a transmitter fitted in the windshield. The range was till the rear boot. Whenever the receiver is within that radius, engine immobilizer is set off and doors are unlocked.
Would like to fit such a device (engine immobilizer with proximity sensors) with an external battery (exclusive for the device) as Pulsars are thief magnet here! Any such device available?

I absolutely don' understand what help does the remote starter provides?? Other than saving a min or two, to keep ur bike idle (warmed up) before starting off..

The AutoCop feature is OK, but it can prove to be a hassle if the kids or some adult morons plays with it.

IIRC it just gives supply to starter to run & start the engine . Also i think unicorn , shine , hunk , extreme don't have ecu but still found some of them with remote security & having facility of self start .

The fitting of Remote System is not difficult , the one my friend bought ( Stabel made ) for his Pulsar 180 has 5 wires , connection of which is as follows , one to battery +ve terminal , other to battery -ve terminal , one to left indicator , one to right indicator , one to starter . And finally stick that assembly under seat behind side pannels where water can't go easily while raining or washing .

The person at shop asked 100 rupees for fitting when we buyed it , but i done the fitting of it in front of him within 10 minits ( as the job is easy due to wiring diagram provided with it mentioned about color of wire & where to attach it . )

Later after 4/5 month there a issue of battery draining arrived , so i added a switch in between +ve battery terminal & supply wire , so when he park bike in his garage at home , simply turn off it .

No, proximity sensored remote lock/engine immobilizer are for cars only and do not come for bikes. Those sensors are kept inside the car just to find any unauthorised intrusion in the car.
If we install regular engine immobiliser for our bike, we get peace of mind while parked in empty areas where less people are around. But the device will be consuming battery even if it is unarmed. I had fitted Cizon Security Alarm in CBZ & a chineese security alarm on ZMA, but never had battery drain issues. Currently did not fit for ZMA as it has no kick start and I did not want to take chance.

Yes something of that sort! :P

@Shibadip yeah the alarm feature is pretty annoying i am going to disable that. The remote starter is purely for the fun of starting the bike without the key! i am not looking for anything from the Functionality wise, as i said it is purely for the fun of starting the bike.
