  • Yamaha R15 v1 clutch bell problems

I own a Yamaha R15 v1 of 20p2 series 2009 model which has clocked 14000km .it has the same clutch bell noise as that of other r15 ,one of the mechanic has suggested me to change my clutch assembly to that of ver-2 .but my question is -

1.My model has set of 5 clutch plates and the other models(38b) have clutch of 4 clutch plates in their assembly so what will be the effect on the performance and the ride if i change my full clutch assembly to new one(4clutch)?

2.i have aslo heard that these (38b) model with 4 clutch are not smooth to ride like my 20p2 model,is that true?

3.also fitting the same 5-clutch new assembly will it again start the clutch bell noise again after 6000km of running?

4.or should i just change the clutch bell bushes and the worn out clutch plates?

    please help!

20p2, 20p1 ,38b1 ,38b2 are series of Yamaha R15 vehical production, its the series no. which is within your chassis no.check your vehical chassis no for more details
for eg- ME120p02982013269 is my vehical chassis no. so here the underlined figure shows the series no."
somen1984" you are saying that your R15 is of 2010 so it must be of 38b1 series !

Anyway what about my Thread quires? please some one answer them and provide me details what i need to do!

Ok, here are my views & experience:

          1. The 4 plate clutch system works just fine. It easily handles the power & load of the bike.
          2. I have tried the 38 series bikes (I have a 20P) and have found no difference between them in terms of clutch actuation, feedback, and power delivery.
          3. I have had the problem with the clutch bell & replaced it at around 10,000 kms. The problem has not repeated it self (it's 19,000 kms now). However, it can come back. The reason for changing had nothing to do with performance. I only changed it as I didn't like the sound it was making. It does not affect performance in any way.

Hope the above clarifies your queries.

While replacing the clutch bell, request the lathe person to use a softer rubber bush, coz for R15 we normally use SS or FS oil.

@vinit S : Recently i faced the same issue, service center guys helped me out with softer bush.No need of replacing the whole clutch bell.
Better check for some other service center who can help without replacing the clutch bell.

What was the cost of the bell?
Was there any vibration due to bell?
Clutch bell I am guessing is the outer hub on which we mount the plates and springs itself, you know the hub which is in direct meshing with crankshaft. Am I right?
What exactly is the problem with it? rubber bushings?

Mine vibrates a bit at handlebar and footpegs increasing with revs. In neutral, as I disengage clutch the sound changes (a regular four stroke sound), on engaging it will change its note to a bit thumpy one. Some say its bell problem. Well performance isn't affected except these vibrations. New to this bell thing, never had this problem on rtr.

Its a 2008 model 20P1 done around 25K kms, must say ridden hard.

20P1 model 5 plate system's clutch bell (hub) is reported to have this problem. In many instances the bell starts making a rattling sound which when left unattended deteriorating to vibrations. These vibrations will ultimately affect the cranck bearings. You have 2 choices. First replace the bell or recondition it. Personally, I do not put much faith in the reconditioning of the bell.

I dont remember the the price of the bell as it was replaced quite a while back. I think about 3 years back.

                          Okay thanks for the input.
I guess I would change the bell itself, not much trouble to me except the labour with oil .
Willl ask for price and get on from SVC ASAP.

                          cheers

                            Hi Tanmay,

I'm facing the same issue with my R15 (2010). Could you please confirm the current status of your bike, if the bell has been replaced?

no i haven't replaced it yet, but rode 2 sundays very hard and low gears, the problem hasn't gt any worse, in fact it feels just as stock except the vibrations and noise.
