    The rebuild starts.....

The rebuild has finally started - Plan to have the bike ready for first ride on the 12th, next Saturday.

    Spares Update -
    1. HID kit - Haven't decided on anything yet and plan to do this as a cosmetic add-on after the rebuild.
    2. Fork Boots - Was able to source Endura fork boots from Nanapeth for Rs 150.
    3. Crank - Picked up a new crank last weekend.
    4. My mechanic was able to source a used Endura side panel for Rs 400 from someone in Aurangabad.

    Open Issues -
    1. Front fork and disc break setup - Planned to go for the Impulse front end and basically use the CBZ disc setup that I had. I nosed around a couple of dealerships in Pune and none of them have any information about the spares or even when they would be available. As of now I have come-up with 2 alternatives -

Option A - Buy used Bajaj front fork and disc brake setup - 2500 for used fork + cost of disc setup ( 4000-5000) - total of Rs 7500.
Option B - Find shock bottoms from Honda that match the existing shock-up pipes on the Endura so that I can use the CBZ disc setup. Cost 1000

    I'm hoping its Option B.

    Rebuild Process -

    a) Rear Monoshock conversion - The rear monoshock conversion has been done. I have got two settings for shockup placement on the swing-arm to alter the height of the bike if needed.
    b) Paint - The paint scheme I'm come-up with is similar to the limited edition FZ. (Black with golden rims). The bike is going in for paint tomorrow.

Engine - The engine would be primered and then painted black. Two coats of lacquer would be going on it as well.
Chassis - The chassis has been scrubbed completely and will also go for primer, 2 coats of paint and lacquer.
Bike drums, rims and shockup bottoms - The break drums, rims and the shockup bottoms would be painted dull golden color.
Bike Body - Everything will be painted black with 2 coats of black paint and 2 coats of lacquer.

    c) Chrome work - The nuts and bolts, break cams, handle-bar etc are going in from chrome / electroplating tomorrow and I will hopefully have them back next wednesday.

These are the updates for now.

    Cheers,
    Sohaibak

Endura - Plexi-glass in petrol tank!

      Hi all,

Its been a long time I've been here. Here's an update.

I know you make a bike only once, and I wanted my Loki to be perfect. Wanted to have put on the entire Hero Impulse front end to give the bike the look I wanted, with 19 inch rims and 17 inch rims, knuckle guards and all. A month back, I went to Parts Cottage (Spare part distributor for Pune) to procure the same, did even pay a token amount of 5000 to confirm the order. I was assured the parts would be here in 15 days, but they haven't arrived yet and when I went in today, the guy tells me he has no clue when he would get those. So I got my money back and decided to have this done as and when I get the parts

The bike was stuck up because of this and now it seems I'll have to be satisfied with 18inch rim and tyre setup

In the mean time, I did lay hands on another Endura tank and side panels. I was looking on the net and found this cool RX king that has a plexi glass thing on the tank. I feel its a niche idea and wanted to know if any other members have done this on their bikes and how ?

        2 questions to fellow members.

        a) Any one tried a different carb on the KB?? ( I guess these are CM type).
        b) Any options with the reed valves?

        Cheers,

Any ideas how you can increase the front shock travel. Hero Impulse has a 180mm travel compared to other bikes (140-150mm). Unfortunately, there is no idea when the Hero spares would be available. I'm getting a P220 fork cheap, but wanted to get your opinion as well?

Will be glad if members share their views.

          Cheers,

P220 forks would be too heavy.

              Thanks bibhu for the reply!

The problem i'm facing is Fork travel Vs front disc brake.
The Enduro forks have a nice travel, but you cannot get a disc brake on it..without some jugaad. That's the reason I was thinking about using the P220 forks (135mm travel).

There one guy who had a few nice dirt bike frames which he used for some races. My mechanic is going to talk to him today. Keeping my fingers crossed. If I land one of those, then it will be like killing two birds in 1 shot.

For the tyres, I plan to go for the Michelin Sirac Street setup. They seem to have a nice on-road/off-road grip. Not sure about cornering.

              Cheers,

Get classic pulsar bottom tubes. They should fit directly on to your existing pipes.

As Bibhu bhai told, Pulsar classic's bottom is a direct fit, I have seen it. But that will compromise your travel.

I will be re-using the Enduro forks and get the jugaad done for the disc. Dont want to compromise on the fork travel!

                    Thanks,

Can you please explain how using pulsar bottom tubes will compromise the wheel travel

Sarin chetta, The pic in post#18 was clicked by me long time back. I had asked my mech about the disc setup in it, he clearly mentioned the fork travel was less. The reason could be shorter stroke length in the bottom tube than the endura's.

its bollocks, afaik the inner piston /pump along with the spring is responsible for determining the stroke length , not the design of the bottom outer tube design, as for the mechs do not beleive all the bs they vomit out,

so you are saying that the pulsar's bottom combo will have the same travel as the stock?

Thank you all for your valuable comments. I hope KB100 you are right..that would mean I can have disc breaks and long travel in one go!

After a long search, got the following tyre for the Enduro -

                              i. Make - Dunlop
ii. Name - Dunlop Monster Trail
                              iii. Size - 4.10/ 18 61P
                              iv. Tyre Compound - Soft

For the front its still the Michelin Sirac 90/90-18 the main choice. Any one know where I can source this in Pune? Finding the front Sirac is getting difficult

Here are some pics of the tyre -
