  • Choke Problem with Stunner

This December I noticed my bike was running super rich, bike used to smoke black smoke almost all the time. I then after troubleshooting found out that choke was the problem.
Only two possible causes I can think of, one; the spring, which sits between choke valve & choke cable has now lost its tension (making the valve stay in partly open position)
Or second, the cable itself it making the valve stay open.

For making the AFR correct I have disabled the choke by disconnecting the spring loaded choke cable from the valve. Now the valve sits tightly in its bore.

    Need suggestions, Plz help.

So your issue with Choke is still not solved,eh??BTW,I asked one of the Service advisors about this issue, and he said greasing needs to be done(I dont know what that means),and as always,he advised a complete replacement of the choke wire and set,if that doesn't solve the issue.

You also have one question pending for you in my thread..!!!

if you are unable to get spares from your honda asc in 10-15days, shoot a mail to honda... it works and the parts appear magically.
and by greasing, i think they meant to lubricate the choke cable/mechanism.. not the insides of the carb.

Just my 0.02$, I lubricated my clutch cable and accelerator cables with ABRO silicone spray. Works wonders man...very handy and easily makes things smooth. If you have a good Bajaj A.S.S, you can ask them for Wurth HHS 2000 or 5000, Bajaj is a golden client for Wurth.

Okay, so the spares arrived at the dealer. Before making the purchase, I compared the length of choke cable & its spring. The new ones were exactly similar to the used ones. totally confused now.. What to do??

i would suggest you get the carb completely opened up cleaned and tuned from a 'good mechanic'. also get the choke cable checked and fixed correctly. i doubt u need a choke cable replacement.
the best bet would be a carb/choke overhaul & then replace the necessary parts. while you are at it also get the throttle cable lubed.

Well the thing is I have not came across any 'good mechanic' so I perform most of the needed things. Now just thinking of keeping the choke disabled

Dude.. I dont understand this... Whats wrong with the idea of lubricating whole choke/throttle wire ? You can save few bucks for sure.

go to a honda asc and try to speak with the manager or bribe the guy who takes the bikes in/writes the job card to assign your bike to the best factory trained mech they have for the stunner. I am sure every asc has atleast one factory trained mech. or visit a different asc and make sure you go on a weekday like tuesday or wednesday to avoid the peak rush on weekends. Also visit them a day before you plan to give the bike in and have a chat with the mech and tell them you will be coming in the next day at xxxx time, preferably at 9am because thats when the mech is relaxed and not in a hurry. and when you give it for service make sure you hang around.(they will ask you to leave the bike and go, tell them you are coming from a far off place and cant go back and come.)
Even after this if they are unable to fix the issue, make an entry in job card when you sign it and then shoot a mail to honda or visit their website and give in your feedback.

this is my observation and experience with the asc's to get things going positively for us bikers.

Practically that's not possible bro. There are 2 svc's in the city and they are rather small. Everybody at the svc entertains new vehicles (for free services) and people start rushing in early morning like 5.30 or 6am and svc opens at 9. I can't afford to stand in queue that long. And last time I got my carb tuned from svc head mechanic (don't know he's factory trained or not he is knowledgeable) he lean tuned it.. When I told him to richen it out a little, he started giving silly excuses. No mechanic I have seen able enough..Another thing is they ain't open on weekend and I ain't free on working days.

a carb overhaul/clean doesn't require any special tools, so you could try asking the mech at the svc if he can 'do this outside' (like maybe at your home) - you will of course have to use your 'payment' skills to make him agree but i am surprised there are only 2 Asc's in your city ! and for all you know it may be a simple problem that would get fixed with a proper overhaul of the carb/choke and maybe the tps needs to be checked too (there is a different procedure to check and calibrate the tps, and its a different story)

Found a longer & harder spring which fits the choke assembly. Everything seems fine for now. Will update if I notice any issues. @ Sid, I think TPS is fine. Because everything is as fine as it was.. Mileage, acceleration, throttle response etc.. Btw, its not really a big problem. I just want to keep my bike in best shape possible
