  • first ride and a few dumb questions

    Hello Lads,

I haven't been here for a long time since i posted asking ideas for a new bike, I was planning and dreaming about the yamaha sz-r 150 (thank you for the suggestions), but then As i didn't have any passed experience on biking I settled for a discover 135 which happened to be a second hand, the bike was used by a guy i know and he took really nice care of it. and she is in tip top condition.

so i got my bike, he handed over the bike after a service and told me to do the next service after 2000kms. and am just curious on how to look after it! what are the routine tasks (if theres any), i should do?

what does the pass switch near the clutch do?

    what is ride control?

(i know the questions are silly and dumb, but it's always better to ask )

[now i know how people do not know what is RAM and HDD and etc on a computer!!! i use to laugh at them my bad] please let me know... going to get my full face helmet today... was running on stocks.

    cheers guys

    Query Approved and moved

The pass switch is to flash your headlight from low beam to high beam.

Anyways congrats on your bike and stick around here and you will learn enough, to be able to help out others as well.

    Cheers
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

As said, pass switch allows you to switch to high beam when in low beam or when the light is off.
I think the ride control switch is like a speed limiter, say, when switched on, it restricts to go beyond 60kmph. XCD, Discover 135 owners can answer it better IMO :-)

first of all, i'll congratulate you for your ride.
i had dicsover 125 (used) few years back. in this bike the current to head light for both beams comes from megnet coil directly. if you rev hard brighter light you get.
the pass button provides current from battey driectly to high beam of headlight. you can notice that in light off or light on in low beam. it enlights high beam to signal some one coming from oppossit side or person driving ahead you.
the ride control is of no use AFAIK.

        enjoy your ride. ride safe.

As everyone said above, pass switch will turn on the high beam using current directly from the battery (wired DC to battery). It is used to flash on coming vehicles to inform them that you intend to pass them, it is also used to warn the vehicle in front of you that you are overtaking, it is also used to signal oncoming vehicles to lower their high beams if they are blinding you.

AFAIK Ride Control switch basically adds a small physical resistance to your throttle. So for example when ride control is off, you can smoothly twist open the throttle all the way, when ride control is on you will be able to open throttle smoothly only till one point, beyond that you will have to apply more force. This feature basically urges you to open your throttle less, effectively reducing you acceleration (therefore safe) and increasing your mileage (therefore economy).
