Re: 2009 TVS APACHE RTR 160 CC Multiple issues

Abhik1 - use Shell ax7 for engine oil. Its semi synthetic oil but good for about 1500-1800 kms. Post that change the oil or get your bike serviced. Your engine should feel new always. Also change the oil filter.
dive007 - the main culprit of drop in the performance of your bike is the K&N air filter. Please change it back to stock and check the tuning. Cluctch plates is fixed once and for all. I am not sure why they keep playing with it.
For 0-60 timer, press the reset button to reflect 9.9 again. Then hold the bike in 1st gear at 5k rpm and launch the bike. Ensure don't rev it beyond 8k rpm while shifting to 2nd gear. Ride till the speedo reaches 60kph and above with proper gear changes. Your SE timer will reflect between 4-6 seconds based on how you ride.

The noise is the tappet sound most probably. Get it tightened according to the specifications.

Alextreme - Recently about 500km back I changed my oil . I am currently using Castrol power1 20-50 which I thought would keep the engine cooler also replaces oil and Air filter from TVs.

I have purchased a used Apache RTR 160 few months back. Since the purchase I have visited multiple mechanic shops in Hyderabad and TVS Service centre.
All i needed was a smooth engine . I have changed oil 3 times now in 2000km as Oil was getting black the service center people suggested to change the clutch kit which would also address the engine heat issue but not much difference. Currently my bike acts strange and its difficult to explain, below I have listed my concerns.

Engine performance fluctuates

Eg for two days it runs smooth an then the next 3 days its rough as hell also pick up is not smooth. It almost feels that the bile has two characters. I am not talking about this issue poping up when the engine heats up , it stays rough throughout .

Engine knocking sound when i accelerate fast at higher gears

Low pickup when ridging with a pillion (70kg +60 kg)

Exhaust note also changes when the bike is running rough it sounds more bassy.

Any help would be appreciated also if any one can suggest a good mechanic known in Hyderabad for Apache RTR I would appreciate it . I was tinking of getting a carb cleaning done but not sure if it would help as I mentioned it has two characters .

Regards,
Abhik

You can continue using the same engine oil. From my experience I felt shell ax7 the best suited engine oil. I have never used engine oil above grade 40 except once when u used a Mobil one oil. Could not afford it after. The engine oil you are using is higher grade than recommended. No harm in using it but there will be a visible performance difference these oil grades. I am a rev happy guy hence I prefer semi synth based oil. If you are happy with the engine oil keep using it.

Hii... Even this is semi synth cost around 400 . I will surely try a different oil next time . The oil 20 50 is bit thick and what I heard is it will stick to engine at high temperature . lower grade oils becomes thin at high temp . I guess the issue is something to do with the fuel and air mixture .. Carb needs to be checked for any air leakage. I'll b meeting Pradeep on Monday he has been using same bike now for 50k km . Hope we can find out.
