Actually it also depends upon the riding style. Since these being the main and only power transfer device of the bike. If you ride hard and pull the bike to a quick acceleration, the chain undergoes stress and expands. Since O-ring chains are continous type(i.e) link cannot be removed. After the full adjustment of the back wheel. We have to replace the chain set. I have changed my set at 13K. Even though I regular clean and lub the chain. Since I drive hard the life of the chain set also is less. Hence it depends upon your riding style. This is mainly for the O-ring chains for normal chains we can remove the link and the life can be extended.

    Cheers.

10K seems less to me too. Mathew, I believe if we remove the link in a normal set, the chain length can be reduced but a worn out sprocket is still a bad sign. Hence we would still have to replace the set. Don't you think so?

      @neevarp16:
I own a normal set of rolon chain and have done 13K km with rev range from 6k to 8K. My chain sprocket set can last another few thousand km.
Since normal chains depend on the lubrication we do, travelling at speeds means oil doesn't stick long enough and needs frequent lubrication and I follow that not to let chain dry out.

However I believe in this case, an o-ring chain is present on your cbr150, which needs very very less care. Just washing the chain to make sure dirt and grit is not present is enough and lubrication once in 500km is also good but not too much. I think soaking the o-ring chain in kerosine is bad idea since kerosine or wd-40 seeps through the rubber seal and removes the inner layer of lubrication present in the rings. The reason the sprocket could have worn out due to improper rear wheel adjutment when setting chain slack!

Hehe yeah and people say p150 and p135 dont have o-rings.....but the service manual and parts catalogue clearly mentionts it as said by service personnel

Dont remove links from the chain and ride the bike. My mechanic did it on my spendor and I rode that for another 20-25K kms, but after joining xbhp, realised that it was a big MISTAKE.

If the chain is not getting tightened, it has lost nearly all its usable life.

What I have experienced with these open chains, if you dont lubricate them often, they die too soon. Ride when you see shiny lubricant on the chain. If you dont see that, put the shiny fluid (called lubricant ) and then start riding. Even after doing all this, I can see two three sprockets damaged after 14K on the odo!

            Exactly my point!

Its never safe once the chain or sprocket is worn out. And replacing entire set should be the best option for long run.

              Re: My next chain-sprocket set.

For your next sprocket kit i would advice you to go for diamond. Cbr 150 although has open chain but the chain is non o-ring. Most of the new bikes from Honda like shine, stunner and cbr 150 chain set is lasting very less. Most of the shines and stunner requires chain set replacement at 10-15k and our stunner also is asking for replacement at 14k kms. I have bought a Diamond kit and will change this time.

Regarding life of chain sprocket then it cannot be said but in my Joy the chain kit last very long. In this 3.2 lacs km the chain kits changes are:-
              1. OE- that came with bike lasted for 55k km.
              2. Diamond xtron(this model was stopped)- Lasted for 65k
              3. Oe kit- lasted for 50k
              4. Diamond - lasted for 60k
              5. Diamond- Is still going strong at 95k and still is having less up and down movement less than my extreme chain kit. At last i think i will change it by getting bored.

Your chain got damaged earlier because of high revving. High revving is not the culprit but chain got damaged due to mechanical shocks. So repeated revving and pulling and then braking induces too much stress on chain. Travel all day long at 10k rpm and chain will have no effect but rip it in each gear in city and chain will last way less.

                That's a good insight!
The limiter kicks in @11,500 rpm just within a second after the first shift..And, that's where the fun begins !! ;)

Any Hero or Honda Authorized Service and Spares dealer will have enough stock of these. Don't buy at local shops if you are not sure of brand or package quality for your bike. Better still you can go to service center and ask to change to oring chain+sprockets. They will charge you nominal to fix it.

Remember, if they say they won't do it unless you leave for service or ask hefty labor cost. Tell them you want to talk to the service in charge head and talk to him about it.
