  • Honda Unicorn - Not Revving

    Hello Friends,
I have unicorn 2009 model, it is not going/raveing smooth & not giving better pickup when I drive double seat.
I have replaced my rear tire, block-piston, Air filter, Clutch plats according to wear out. I have done 55000km till date.
Now its time to change the chain sprocket?????but it looks in good condition.
Please tell me what to do for good performance & mileage, now it giving me 50kmpl.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Lubricate the chain and adjust it to correct slack , about 1.5 inch up-down movement in the middle of the bottom run , with the bike on main stand . Ask your service-center/mechanic to tune the carburetor for a richer mixture ( fuel mileage shall reduce ) . Your engine is running lean .

I think the chain sprocket is the culprit. Ask your mech and go for what he suggests.

Most probably front sprocket is worn off . Adjust chain slack and re tune carb .

What is the last time u changed your spark plug? If u have driven more than 15000 in your spark plug then change it.
Change it to Mico or NGK and don't go for Champion. Your company recommends NGK CPR8EA-9 or RG6YC CHAMPION. Recommended gap 0.8-0.9 mm.
After u changed spark plug u need to get your carb re-tuned.

If u want to change chain sprocket then go for DIAMOND RACING SPECIAL. The number of teeth for unicorn front sprocket is 15t and rear 42t.

When was the last time you changed the engine oil?
What grade engine oil you put in the engine? As putting the wrong grade of engine oil also worsens the revving and smoothness.

See you are lucky that you're getting 50 kmpl mileage.Usually others get 40-45 kmpl in Unicorn.
The reason you're getting so high mileage is your carb is running lean mixture and too lean or too rich
mixture is not good for the engine,it should be exact. So IMHO please inspect and adjust the carb.
Related to the chain sprocket,as you have done 55k kms,its better if you change it.
Check the mixture by inspecting the spark plug,if the tip is light brown, its a good tuned carb.
Try to lubricate your chain for every 200-300 kms which increases the life of both sprocket and chain.

It's time now that you get your sprockets changed, I think it'll be in the final limits of the sprocket, I guess the front GB might have worn out. . . If you need an extra pick up, ask your mechanic to tune your carburetor for performance, it'll give you that extra pick up and also go for shell engine oils, semi-synthetic that I am using currently (not the yellow one, but a still upgraded than that) which will cost you around 315. . . I have tuned up my unicorn towards a rich mixture and believe it or not, it can beat down an rtr180 on a straightline drag, I had a race soon after I got it tuned, we started together, my bike went further uptil 90-95 kmph and that's when the rtr180 took the lead and also the top end has been increased from 101 kmph to 120+ kmph which I have rode it till there, all these you get by sacrificing a little amount of FE, firstly I was getting up to 55-59kmpl, now getting uptil 52-53 and I don't rev my Unicorn continuously, only sometimes. . .

(PS: Don't forget to change your oils regularly, tighten the chain and lubricate it once in a week and leave it for time to time service, then your ride will rock)
