Pulsar Engine dies randomly.
My Pulsar 150 (DTSi UG2 2004) engine dies suddenly at random and once it does any effort to start it is futile. Its not a problem of fuel supply. But the curious thing is it starts after some random amount of time. The mech whom i told about this problem said the CDI is screwed! Is his diagnosis correct? BTW me and friend checked the Spark Plugs, no of them produced any sparks after the engine went dead. But it starts after some time means its not a problem with spark plug but something electrical??2004 Pulsar 150 DTSiTags: None

Re: Pulsar Engine dies randomly.
As mentioned by RascalAngel, "the engine dies and starts after some time" this phenomena is related to faulty ignition coil during the end of its lifeOriginally posted by Midhun.akd View Postmaybe its related to cdi or ignition coil...Biker of the Year -2013

Re: Pulsar Engine dies randomly.
So it takes 9 years for the bike to slow its heart beat and die. What is average life of a bike?
RasAngle, how many years your bike ran smoothly since 2004 and what are the major issues that you have faced apart from this ignition coil.

Bike has been running smoothly since 2004. Never had any issue with engine. This is the first time it has failed on me. Other usual issues were there, tire wear,Battery,Switches,Bulbs etc etc.But small niggles they are.
Average life of bike?Hmmmm....thats subjective i guess.Depends how well it has been maintained.i know one user on xbhp who is using his bike post 3lakh KM!!!!2004 Pulsar 150 DTSi

RasAngel, here is the man with the same bike as yours faced some problems which he says he spent 1000 bucks for engine coil while the other says it as an ignition coil in this linkOriginally posted by RascalAngel View Post

Whatever it is after 9 years I may face the same issue with my Pulsar 180.

Re: Pulsar Engine dies randomly.
Update:
After waiting and riding the bike for few days for problem to re-occur it finally gave the same problem today. So the first thing i did is get my multimeter and checked the voltage at the inputs of the HT coil(Left side one). When the engine was running i had observed some voltage at these two terminals. Now when the engine was not starting there was no voltage so my spark plug and HT coil was ok. now moving backwards the next component was the cdi.Opened the socket after removing the tank and saw some white sticky thing on the pins.used WD40 to clean them.Connected everything and cranked the engine. No life. Then i noted down the wires coming from the magneto to cdi. RED,RED-WHITE and usual ground BLACK-GREEN.So connected the multimeter between the RED and BG wires. Some Voltage.Good.Next connected MM between RED-WHITE and BG.No voltage.Went online and searched for wiring diagram of pulsar 150.So the RED wire is from the rectifier part of the magneto whereas RED-WHITE is the output of pulsing coil. Sadly no where in the parts catalougue of P150 the pulsing coil is mentioned separately so guess il have to buy the whole assembly for a small coil

Re: Pulsar Engine dies randomly.
I have a 2004 model (round headlamps and 18" spoke wheels) as well. The problem in your bike is a faulty CDI unit and/or ground/earth issue. Try riding the bike with headlamps ON and check. You may want to swap a CDI unit from your friend's bike and test. Besides you may not get the default part for this model. I am pretty sure your problem will be resolved and will have a smile back on the face ;-)Originally posted by RascalAngel View PostThe mech whom i told about this problem said the CDI is screwed! My DIY(s) - Sprocket bearing change | Paint job | Custom speedo dial

I checked and got the tank cleaned > 200ml water
removed > Still not solved
Bike has run for a while now though at speed above 40kmph engine feels as if its suffocating..Still observing.
Though now neutral light glows dimly even when in gear. So i think there is some faulty connection somewhere.2004 Pulsar 150 DTSi

Re: Pulsar Engine dies randomly.
Did you check the grounding? This happened to me. Instead of replacing CDI initially, I'd the black wire from CDI grounded to one of the bolts in magneto cover. Give it a try. Else, hope you already checked clutch, plugs, cam and carb piston/diaphram/jets.
