Re: I want to import the duke 200

    Much ado about nothing.

Google "export agencies" or use a website called JustDial. You'll find a list from either Mumbai or Chennai. One of the agencies will run you through the entire procedure albiet for a small fee (2% of the total cost).

Now be carefull, you cant trust anyone off the internet.

Since you said Kenya, there are several shops that sell Indian wear (read: silk sarees). Meet the owner, discuss your problem (even buy a saree or two). He'll fix you up with his registered agency who will then discuss with you the colour of Duke you'd want.

Tip: Payment will HAVE to be made BEFORE the bike even leaves the showroom (so dont panic if the agent tell you this. its an Indian Export Law). Make the payment in the name of the bike right into the dealer's bank account (so panic if the agent tells you otherwise). The payment of the agents fee is his discretion.
The liability of the delear ends once the bike leaves the showroom.

    Good luck!

Re: I want to import the duke 200

Mostly the price of the bike is high due to the high tax and other duties imposed by the govt of the country you are staying.
So if you are bypassing all those means, you are doing something illegal and may attract penalty or charges against you.
So if you have means to overcome all those, you may try something like this.
No manufacturer would like to sell their bikes at a very high price than their manufacturing cost, but its the taxes that makes something expensive. So most probably the high price is due to govt taxes and currency of the country.
Our own govt has set a high duty for imported vehicles and if you do it the other way, its illegal.
Its the same there, I think.

He has already said that import tax on bikes in Kenya is just 16%.

[QUOTE=briankariu;969107]Thanks soo much. This would really help. Someone had adviced me to go directly to the bajaj factory at pune. Cut out the dealers and hopefully get a better price since its a large number of bikes.
Also, does there exist different laws for different parts of india? Because you are advicing me to try Gujarat?
It seems that handling money is an international problem, we have the same problem here, I can trust my neighbour with my house keys

Have you got the bike shipped to Kenya?

Sadly no. Everyone I talked to was trying to rip me off. They quoted astronomically high prices that it didn't work out. Additionally, talked to bajaj directly who flat out refused to ship the bikes to me, pushing me towards the pulsar 200ns instead of the duke.
I have all but given up hope
