• How to add an Engine kill stitch in Honda Unicorn ?

Hello,
I have a 200 model Honda unicorn. I would like to add an Engine kill switch like the ones in FZ, apache, etc.
Is this possible.

Check for Pulsar wiring diagram.

If the kill switch is connected directly to ECU, then that might not be possible.

hi,
You can make a parallel connection from the ignition switch. You have to locate the ignition switch cable connector, find(from wiring diagram or mechanic) which wire is to be switched on to ground(earth) for cutting off engine.I have done it on RXG,but don't know whether unicorn has any wiring related issues. The basics of making ignition off is as mentioned above.

Regards,

Regards,
On the rxg wiring there is a black/white wire which connects the ignition switch and the cdi. To add a kill switch you slice it and connect the kill switch to it.

Check the unicorn wiring diagram. If its a a/c system then there should be a simmilar connection. The connection between the ignition switch and the cdi or ht coil(whichever connection is there) can be tapped to add the kill switch.

In a dc setup i guess the kill switch wld be connected to the battery line connection in the ignition switch.

Re: How to add an Engine kill stitch in Honda Unicorn ?

there are 2 ways you can do it.Will mention both choose one of your choice. You will be needing the RHS engine kill switch of a bike with the self starter.get the apache's.looks alike with uni's

1.Ignition coil

2.Ignition socket.(prefered)

1.The igniton coil has a positive and ground wire.you need to connect the wires of the switch inbetween the positive connection.

2.This ones easy and you need not get the wire to the ignition coil below the tank.get to the socket.there will be 4 wires in the socket.the lines will be Battery-in,Battery-out.Igniton-in,Ignition-out.

what you need to do is get the switch between the Ignition out.thats where you can stop the current to flow.

Also you need to work with the self-start switch...Its simple.you just need to connect them according how it was in the old set.

Thank you harikishen, for explaining this in a simple way. Will go with the second method?
Do, i need to cut the gnition-out wire, and connec the ignition kill switch wire?

Are you sure both unicorn and apache has similar wiring ?

yeah....i wish to do mods myself.
Can it be done DIY ?
Also, I have read about converting the ac bike to dc. So, maybe that too will be done. Can we instll the engine kill switch as Harikishen mentioned in a dc bike ?

Yes it can be done.
1. First get a blueprint of the job to be done.
2. Prepare a flowchart
3. Get it approved from members here or with a local auto electrician or mehanic
4. Get the materials necessary
5. Get your hands greasy

You might need the entire grip assembly to accommodate the switch in it. Placing the kill switch separately might not be good. Sometimes if you are unlucky you might need to replace the handlebar itself to accommodate the grip assembly.

The AC to DC cannot be a DIY though and is not recommended.

Take snapshots of your DIY and post it.

Can I use the "switch assembly unit" of apache or pulsar or even cbz for the purpose?

If you want to look the 'Kill Switch' to look like OEM, you will need to change the entire assembly and that should cost you around Rs.550 +/-
Try something from the Honda family itself. The spares guy should be able to get you one.

yeah you have to cut the wires.I think all models kill switch have only 2 wires.or else check for set with 4 wires(2 wires for kill switch and 2 wires for self starter.)

pulsar ug3 onwards switches cannot be used as they are contactless. they are having the bcu to which they are connected.
