• Help me with my pulsar 150

I own a year old pulsar 150 , 5000km riden till now. I am having few issues with it and seeking for help here ( No wonder, I am New her!!).
1. While riding my bike, there is a khataak!! sound which comes from the botttom. It is like some metal part suddenly broked up or fallen from bike. It happens only few times but its loud enough to scare me. Iam not sure if its from the chain drive or gear box or stands part. The service guy is unable to find any problem though he cleaned and lubericated the chain.
2.Bike heats to much, even when I ride it for 5 kms. during 5000km run ihave changed the oil 4 times, still it heats.
3.Burning smell, after a 5-10 km ride it smells like some paint or plastic got heaten up till burning point, the smee is strong.
4.Suspension, Do all new pulsars got super soft suspensions or I have some problem in mine?

Please Help and ignore if there is any mistake in my post (I am new )

Do u apply polish on the engine or the exhaust pipe? That could be one of the reasons for the burning smell . Which engine oil have u been using?

Bike is running lean, get the carb tuned by a good mechanic. Also see if any hoses or wires got burned by the overheated engine. Pulsars have one of the best suspensions among Indian bikes, check if your rear shocks are set at soft. You can adjust shocks by yourself wit the help of the spanner that comes with the bike in the toolkit.

Does the "khatak" sound occur while downshifting? This suggests that you are shifting hard, be gentle. If the sound comes while running over potholes, it may be due to too soft suspension. Adjust the rear shocks and this sound should be gone. Post a picture of your chain sprocket if possible, but I highly doubt that chain sprockets get worn at just 5K KMS.
I am back!

For #1, might be catalytic converter screws may have gone loose. Or any screw of silencer. It must be stuck somehow but may show its horror when bike is ridden in rough surface for sometime. Also, as cleaner suggested, this might be due to rear shocks and that may happen even if bike has fallen from stand still position, the swing arm and suspension screws collide when tackling rough rode or riding with pillion.

It is a little hard to point the accurate cause though there could be many guess.

1. "Khataak" sound only a few times??? Does it happen only in the initial few kilometers or just anytime? If it were for the gearbox you will have an impact on the gear lever shifter itself. There is a rubber damper on the center stand which I guess could be missing or the stand itself could be bent. Did you try comparing your bike's center stand with other P150?
2. You could try posting a picture of your spark plug to confirm if it is lean.
3. Check if there is oil on the exhaust. Others have also given few pointers.
4. Have you changed the suspension settings anytime? Else it should be stock setting from the factory itself which should be ideal and it will not be super soft.
Hope that helps.

Thanks every one for your help. shreyakms
No I do not use Polish. I use engine oil provided by Bajaj for pulsar. Cleaner roks2408 petrolhead_chn
The sound comes just any time. I have changed the settings of shockers just to increase GC so that it does not touch road in case of potholls or speedbrakers. The bike also fell once from stand and there was a problem of swing arm touching screw of footrest pannel but it was solved at service center.
Even I dont think the chain drive can make problem @ 5000km.The stands looks OK, I am still not able to find the issue behind the sound.
As per the heating problem I will go to service center for Carb tunning ASAP.
When I say soft suspension I mean whenever I sit on my bike ( or any other guy who weighs 60 - 90 kg) both front and rear shockers get pressed half way they are not firm as on my previous bike (CBZ star). Is it a problem or Am i thinking too much?
Thanks again.

I guess the fiddling around with shocks settings is causing trouble. Sometimes the bottom of shocks could scrap with the swing arm or axle nuts. Check for similar marks either on shocks or the axle head/nut. Might sound silly but worth checking. Try reverting the setting back to factory and check again.
