  • TVS Apache 150 2007 model Issues!

    Hello All,

This is my first thread and will be really grateful if you can help..

I bought my dream bike Apache 150 on 2007 and it has been a constant companion for all these years. Always this bike was serviced and taken care in TVS A.S.S.

From now, I am planning to take care of my bike. So, I am here at this very forum to ask you gurus to sort out some of the issues. If I succeed in fixing these issues then I am also planning to do some performance mods.

    So, here they are:
    1. Clutch wont disengage even when the clutch lever is pulled.
    2. RPM meter not working.
    3. Top speed is reduced to 80-90kmph.

Today I tried to solve the clutch issue but Let me first brief out the issue. While on a long trip my clutch cable got cut and was replaced by a local mechanic. Later on my return journey, I felt that gear was little tight and slotting of gears was little bit difficult. I thought this could be the problem with clutch cable setting and planned to tight it.

Today when I checked the setting, it was fine but clutch never gets disengage. Even after completely tightening the cable, it was not at all disengaging. So, my question is, what would be the cause of this issue? Are clutch plates gone for a toss?

Next I completely drained the oil and opened clutch cover to check the plates but they are held by some mechanism and I was not able to remove the plates from the basket.

Note: I was able to remove the springs but not "Nut clutch shaft"(as mentioned in parts manual of RTR.)

      1. Clutch wont disengage even when the clutch lever is pulled - Check the clutch release bearing.
      2. RPM meter not working - Electrical problem. Check the wiring first and then the meter itself with the help of local auto electrician.
      3. Top speed is reduced to 80-90kmph - Possible worn out clutch and seems like it is related to point 1 and 3 are inter-related.

You need certain tools to remove the clutch assembly.
Welcome to xBHP! Replies in bold.
      First inspect and eliminate the common known issues like;

      1. Clogged air filter
      2. Unclean spark plugs - clean or replace and adjust the gap if necessary
      3. Electrical system malfunction CDI unit
      4. Chain slackness - clean chain, lubricate it with chain spray and adjust slackness
      5. Sprockets - Check if sprockets have worn out or not. If it is way too pointed, it is time to replace.
      6. Correct tire pressure
      7. Free wheel rotation - brake pads sticking to drums
      8. Clutch release bearing

Checks 1,2,4,5 and 7 could be done by yourselves while 3 and 8 might need help of mechanic if this is your first time.
Once you narrow down on all these, I am sure the issue will be sorted out. If it still exists, replace the clutch and pressure plates along with hub if necessary.

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well
and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.
