  • Flickering Speedometer needle

    Hello friends, it's glamour 2007.

    the problems is :
    1. the speedometer needle is flickering and it has broken two speedometer wires in a stretch of about 200-250 km . Solution?
Local mechanic says its the speedometer itself, and it can't be rectified but he has some kind of connection and get that done . is that so , speedo unrepairable?

    2.Odometer - 33700 km
the bike might be consuming oil.
so thinking about getting the whole cylinder kit changed , what other thing I should take care of so that it lasts for some good time .
Any other manufacturers which make better parts than OEM , like rollon chain or timing chain etc ... please suggest.

    thanks ...

The speedo needle breaking the speedo wires
From your interest in aftermarket spares, I seriously doubt if you used OEM speedo cable assembly. This change the OEM speedo cable along with worm gear (this is installed on the front wheel axle). This should take care of the flickering.

Need more details on this mate. What makes you think the bike is consuming oil?

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.

Petrolhead Sir, I don't have any interest in aftermarket parts if they don't perform better than OEM parts. Local mechanic told me that it was because of the shivering / flickering of speedometer needle (i was like :-| ) . He also told that there is some problem with the speedometer itself. and speedometers can not be repaired but he , through his special connections , could get that working. is that so ? I had used the OEM speedo cable assembly both times (Part No. 44830ktr700s , discription : cable comp. spdmt , mrp . 88.00 , size/dimension : not applicable) . they were changed as complete (inner cable and outer cover also . ). Both times the point of break in the wire was 2 - 3 inches from the speedometer end. ------------------------------------------ I will give you some more details about oil consuming problem after more testing (riding it for some more time ) . ------------------------------------------- thanks a ton for you response , much obliged.

The speedometer works around special miniature gear structures internally. They are setup by its respective manufacturer. It can be repaired but the longevity cannot be guaranteed. The numbers will not be aligned after refurbishment. Sometimes if the wire is not routed properly, it will lead to breakage.

One of the classic ways to check for worn piston/bore is to know if exhaust of your bike smokes ;-)
The color of the smoke gives you initial observations. This article should give you a fair idea.
