  • Dealer keeps postponing vehicle delivery

    Hi All,

New member here. I own a TVS Sccoty since 2005. The proper geared motorcycle bug caught me recently So booked a SS 125 last Monday (Sep 16, 2013) at Raj Yamaha, Velachery, Chennai. Gave cheque for full amount and it passed on last Wednesday. When I booked on Monday, I saw that they have 2 vehicles and they told they are not booked, they even pointed to the blue one that was there on display as the one that will be delivered to me. But till today they are postponing the delivery. The reason they have given today - there is some issue with Thiruvanmiyur RTO about not being able to register SS 125 and they can 'try' to do the registration tomorrow. Seems total bakwas. So my questions are,

    1. What could be the possible reasons for them not to deliver?
    2. Any ways of making them deliver the vehicle as soon as possible?
    3. Should I make a complaint to Yamaha India about this?
    4. Should I take the vehicle from them and do the registration myself (will they accept to do it that way)?

Thanks in advance, for any pointers that could make them deliver my ordered bike ASAP.

That vehicle pointing you mentioned is exactly what i faced with Pilot Honda dealership...
I call them, they say vehicle is presently at the showroom, so I go to check and they say its your bike so I carefully inspect it for any faults etc.... I am Happy and I return home while they do the registration work and all...A week later(i guess). On the promised delivery date I go because I was impatient but to my shock the manager says sir thats not yur bike and suddenly my dad and myself turned arrogant...a nice argument took place and the manager promised a new date.My dad immediately contacted the regional head, told him about the issue and voila my bike was at the showroom in two days time.. got free cover also and appologies..
You have made your full payment and you dont deserve such treatment .
Get in touch with a senior (not from showroom) check website of yamaha I am sure you will get some contacts
You need to be rude and arrogant to get the job done...

Go with the option no 3 which you mentioned above, complain to the Yamaha India, that'd solve your problem as quickly as possible. . .

Take someone along brothers and dad. Look intimidating but act calm. Catch hold of the person and ask him to give you guys a solid enough reason for your bike not coming and that you dont buy his excuses. Finally calmly tell him that the next time you come, you either want the bike or you want your money back otherwise you will take a legal recourse on this. Finally convey the same to the manager if he hasn't come onto the scene by now and remember to note his name and designation... this will seem that you will take legal action if they remain negligent.

It should come by tomorrow day after... Do the above if it doesn't. I trust better informed people to guide you better on this.

Are you sure? Have you done it before?

To my knowledge the dealer will not even take the vehicle from the stand without obtaining the reg number unless & otherwise it's ridden by their showroom people.

              Did you interlink that...
              - Without vehicle number, there's no insurance
              - And without insurance, the vehicle is highly risky to be ridden on road

              To overcome this...
              - Obtain a TEMP number
              - And obtain a permanent number within 30 days

And the base point is...if you can get a TEMP number, you can as well get a permanent number

The only suggestion for now is to keep calm for a week & see how the registration goes. If the TS is so apprehensive, visit showroom & casually note down the frame & engine number of the vehicle.

True, but that's how folk back in JH get their cars registered. BTW, RTO in my native is just 2 blocks away from the showrooms.

Saar...JH is not BR & BR is not OR & OR is not AP & AP is not TN. From my little knowledge, unless you're a close affinity of someone's who's who, these things are not possible for a common man in TN. Plus, it's quite a risk to make such advice because something goes wrong, except the TS all of us can only give further advice over advice & may be few can be empathetic & none of these can reverse the damage.

Keep things, simple, straight forward, abide the law because peace of mind is more important than being impatient.

Re: Dealer keeps postponing vehicle delivery

Thanks everyone, for posting your experiences and for the tips! This is getting interesting. Owning a Yamaha (may be, a bike in general) seems like not an easy enough thing in India. I googled and found out that the registration can't be done by ourselves that easily. So, I call Yamaha customer care. It was a long wait. I was put on queue and my number was 4. Was thinking there should be many customer care reps, and so I would be able to talk soon. The queue number moved to 2 in a couple of minutes, then to 1 after 5 minutes. At 1, I waited for more than 20 minutes before a rep spoke to me She says, 'How can I help you, Mr Anand?' and asked if my mobile number is right. It was a pleasant surprise having waited on the phone for that long, and I was glad to know that they already had my details in their records.

I tell her about the dealer issue and she says, 'But your vehicle details are all entered here, Sir. Yours is SS 125, right?' I was glad the vehicle's details were there but still insisted on knowing why the vehicle is not delivered yet. She said probably it was the registration issue that the dealer was saying about, and assured me it will get solved soon and I should be getting my bike as the dealer had promised. I hang up kind of worried.

In an hour or so, the dealer calls and says I will sure be getting the bike the next day (that is, today). I didn't tell him about me calling customer care and he didn't mention it too. Not sure if the call to customer care had the intended effect. Still having my fingers crossed about whether I made the right decision in going with Yamaha (not that other manufacturers are better - the internet is full of complaints about every bike maker) and whether I'll get my bike today. Will update this thread when I have more details.

I took delivery of the Hero Honda hunk in the year 2008 when it launched and I registered it myself as the dealer was not ready to get me a fancy number (Chennai).. so I had a fight with them and made them give me the bike and got it registered.. though I had to wait for a week. Atleast I had the bike with me..
