  • Documents Required while selling off my bike??

    Hi Guys

I am thinking of selling my R15 v2 (5 months old with 3.3k on odo) as I am upgrading to a higher cc bike. I am sure that some of you here who would have purchased a second hand bike or might have sold their own. So just wanted to know as to what all documents are required to transfer the ownership? What are the expenses involved? & who bears the expense of those documents? BTW I will be selling it through OLX..( Basically not through those second hand bike dealers)

To sell off your bike you need to have clean papers,
      1. Original RC Book. . .
      2. Vehicle Insurance. . .
      3. You got to keep you bike in a good condition exterior as well to get more money. . .
      4. Make sure you give no negative points for the buyer so that he can have a chance to bargain and bring the price down, it includes you also have good set of tires, if not new at least good condition. . .
      5. You will need to have Form 29 (I think it's form 29 only, just check with it). . .
      6. No extra charges for the changing is needed from your side I guess, not sure. . .
      7. If you are going via a dealer, you gotta pay him some commission or else I don't think so. . .
      8. Err I think that's all you need. . .

      Cheers!!!

If u have maintained service history of the bike like bills etc...you can have proof of the bike's condition and how much dedication is gone into the bike
I have been maintaining records from day 1 in a file....

IN addition to what rakesh has included in the detailed reply in the previous posts. You will also have to have a document that mentions that you have sold your bike to the guy.

There is something called as a delivery note, that is usually given when we purchase from showrooms. However you can use the same format also signed by you and the guy buying from you. Make sure you have a thumb print of the person along with a photo id copy of his. You will find many templates on the internet for this, just use google.

The letter usualy says that you have sold the vehicle to the guy and he would be tranferring it to his name. You are no way responsbile for the bike ( and the consequent usage or things that arise because of it) after that day. Keep this safely with you and also call up the guy after a few months to check if he has done the transfer ( this is to be borne by the buyer.).

Also the insurance of the bike has to be transferred to the name of the new owner, the cost involved also has to be borne by the new buyer.

PS: Go to the "friendly" car-motor driving school near your home, they will be able to tell you in detail about the kind of forms and the number of copies required for the RTA fomalities. You can suggest the buyer to get the forms when he comes for making the payment and taking the delivery.

Please check info under point number 6 Transport Department, Chandigarh

i have gone this process a week ago and i am currently awaiting Seller to redo his signature as the one on his address proof didnt matched he did on the affidavits.
as a Seller you dont have to do much and all running and expenses has to be done by the buyer

Documents you require are-Original R/C and Valid Insurance.

Just Notify the RLA authority that you have sold the Vehicle to be one safe side(Duplicate of form 29) and keep xerox of all affidavits with you.

Not Ethical and DO NOT DO. If something goes wrong, you would get sued for hiding negative information causing that problem

From your perspective, you need to sign off

                  1. Form 29
                  2. Form 30
                  3. Form 35 (if vehicle is under HP and NOC from financier)
                  4. Delivery note with revenue stamp - 2 copies
                  5. Sale deed - 2 copies
                  6. ID/Address proof and photographs of buyer (for your record keeping as well)
                  7. Transfer of insurance form for valid insurance, else 100/- extra charged by agent
                  8. PUC certificate

Agent would charge between 650/- to 1200/- in line to documents available. This charge has to be borne by the buyer although the cancellation of HP to be born by the seller.

Be as genuine as possible. While you can be transparent in informing the problems in vehicle, your talent lies in bragging more about the positives.. Honesty pays!

                  Hope that answers your query!

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.

It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well
and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Sir, Insurance of the bike also needs to be transferred?

Yes! The basic rule is that the seller should have a valid insurance for the bike and that also needs to be transferred. But then there are lot of 'under-the-table' activities done by the agents on your behalf such that even without insurance the ownership of bike can be transferred at additional cost . Once ownership is transferred the buyer can purchase a new policy in his name directly.

                        This is new to me.
I bought a bike last to last month directly from the seller. No agents/dealers involved. I have all forms signed by the seller (without date) that are standard and same as what you mentioned earlier in your list. But no insurance transfer. The bike has a valid insurance till 2014. I have not gone to the RTO yet to transfer the bike to my name.

Does that insurance transfer form has any form #?

You should have posted this query directly instead of asking "Documents required while selling off my bike???" It gives an impression that you are selling your bike.

Since you have already bought the bike and paid, all you need to do is take all the documents that you have to a local driving school and let them know you are looking to transfer the ownership in your name. Pay them! The staffs there are highly trained to put down the signature of the seller in the insurance transfer form and get it done.

Okay. I was thinking to get it transferred myself rather than through agent. Will see.
And I didn't have any query until I read this thread so posted here itself. Apologies. Anyways, the info is common to both seller and buyer. Both need to ensure the all reqd docs are duly signed and taken care of. Thankyou

In my opinion, it would take ages if you intend to do it yourself. It certainly is not worth the time. Instead you can spend quality time with family, friends or do something useful on your bike. Just wanted to share. Good luck!
