  • Installing Larger Piston in HUNK

Hi friends, I want to overhaul the upper portion of my Hero Honda Hunk. As the piston of the bike has become weak, I wanna replace it. The mechanics said that I can install one size larger piston in the existing engine. Please suggest me whether it is possible. If possible then how much larger piston I can installWould the torque and power will be improved? Please need expert opinion.

I guess for a Hunk, 175cc is the last bore you can put, just confirm the same with others. . .

I think, the Mechanic is suggesting boring your cylinder to the next oversize and fitting the matching piston.
This wouldn't make much difference in the cubic capacity and you wouldn't be noticing a difference in power/mileage than the stock piston/bore block.

Rakesh, its not the big bore his mech is talking about. He's talking about an oversize piston.
It can be done, but there won't be any significant (if at all) improvement in performance.

P.S - an oversize piston would also mean that reboring would be involved, but displacement would increase by a teeny tiny bit.

First, did you check with the Authorized showroom on solutions? Din't they suggest bore cylinder kit replacement? Because that is the ideal solution at a cost.
Is the mechanic in discussion a friend of yours near your home? If yes, then he probably is suggesting a rebore job and an oversize piston and rings. You may witness just minor power increase and add to it the 'illusion effect', you might feel you the bike has improved a lot. Significantly, there would also be drop in fuel efficiency. Over time, sooner or later, if the rebore job is not done properly, you will have to spend all over again. Choice is yours mate.

The best solution is to replace the cylinder bore kit, piston, rings, valves/guides(if necessary), timing chain, clutch plates and crankshaft with connecting rod and bearings at one go. The gaskets shall be replaced by default. I suggest you get the job done at service center only as you will get a service warranty. Trust me you will have a new engine and more importantly, peace of mind .

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |

Did anyone here use Raceconcepts 180cc engine kit in their HUNK, CBZ Xtreme or Unicorn?
What is included in the kit?
After installing the Kit what will be the power and torque of HUNK, CBZ Xtreme or Unicorn?
              Please Help!

Few words of caution - Install RC kits at your own risk! They have failed in most of the bikes within 5-10k kms. Stay stock!
Want more power? Plz get a bigger bike.

There is a member who has used Big Bore Race concepts kit in Hunk. Please find the link.

But he is not active in the thread these days...

As DivyaSaran said above, race concepts bore kit has caused problems for many members in this forum, but some users are happy.
And you being in Bangladesh, it wouldn't be easy for you to troubleshoot/rectify any problems that arises after you install the kit.

                    Hi,

Well yes, I haven't been all that active on the thread lately. Not been following developments either.

But, I believe people who are generally happy with the bore will not complain about it. They're happier just enjoying the ride. But those who do have a problem with it, they will of course make some noise as they want people to know how unreliable their kits are. You can't expect OE type reliability from After Market mods, but it's better to get them done when you know troubleshooting won't be too far away.

If I didn't live in Bangalore, where Race Concepts is based, I would never have got this done!

But to be fair, the Big Bore is working flawlessly for the past 7000km.
