  • No RC book, have only road tax challan.... is it enough during police verification

    Hi,

As mentioned in my previous thread, http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/touring-...bangalore.html

I am riding to Shavana Durga hills (instead of pearl valley) on this Sunday (If any one is interested can join me). However, as my bike is a new bike I haven't yet received the smarcard of the RC book and showroom guys have told me that if police asks I can show them the road tax paid challan.

Is this enough if we are going for long rides or will police create a problem if we show them road tax challan with out a RC book/card
I don't know where the bike ends and I begin...If heaven doesn't allow bikes..I'll ride mine straight to hell.

    Query Approved

I don't think a challan is valid papers to ride your bike within or outside city limits. Though am not sure. Someone else can clarify.

But cops will make a meal of you, if they get half a chance.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

I remember someone saying the same, guess it might work, just clarify with some cop if you know. . . Or else ask the Showroom manager once. . . Also, I don't think they will catch you unless you are wearing at least a helmet, . . Anyways, best of luck for your first ride with your new bike , ride safe. . .

Carry your bike purchase invoice as well with the challan. NOBODY can fine you for not having an RC book/card within the first 21 days of purchase. Post that, it IS a violation.

P.S - I hope your bike is registered. One can ride/drive for only 70 kms on temp licence plates AFAIK.

Re: No RC book, have only road tax challan.... is it enough during police verificatio

From my personal experience I can tell you that the tax challan along with dl, insuarance and invoice will suffice on a new bike. I had received my no. When taking delivery of my bike but like you even I was told to expect the rc card around a month later. I did a ride to salem for my bikes break-in, I was stopped at krishnagiri and on showing my DL,insurance, Invoice and Road Tax Challan I was let to proceed without any trouble.

On purchasing a new vehicle to take it out of the showroom you have to have a temporary registration at min, with this registration like Divya said, for 21 days you can travel anywhere in india (along with bike invoice, DL, Insurance, Tax Challan) legally

If you are worried about being harassed well that's something we as indians tend to learn to live with even when everything on our end is in order

            Edit:
Was in the rajajinagar RTO area, BLR. Tried asking some cops but everone seemed too busy to answer. Finally asked couple of agents outside: 30days with TR is not an issue to travel anywhere in india as long as oyher documents mentioned above are valid.

              Thank you every one....

I feel personally it is better to go for the ride after I get my RC book. I met RTO people today and they told me that I'll be getting my RC book next week. Hence I am planning for this ride to Savana Durga on 1st Dec (Sunday) and creating a new thread for the same... so that if any one is interested will join me for the ride :-)

Meanwhile, I am planning to join for the ride to "kolar ccd" tommorow

I don't even carry RC for safety reasons. I only xerox of original documents. I never carry original documents except driving license.

I had a very bad experience with in maharashtra the cops say you have to carry all the documents original or else be ready to pay
