  • Scooty Pep+ sudden starting problem

The scoot Pep+ is 2012 July registered and was running fine all this while in its 1.5 yrs till this morning when I had this starting problem.
It has been serviced regularly and just completed 6th servicing last week.

I and my friend was coming back to my home from an eatery and stopped at a place and that's it, it never started again. And then I and my friend both desperately tried to start it for the next half an hour till we reached home.

Now let me describe the problem : It sounds like khash khash khash khash and not like khash khash khash khash vroom vroom which normally happens.

The battery is fine,air-filter looks good, I opened the engine bay and nothing looks amiss till I last saw.

Planning to walk tomorrow morning to the service center, any pointers or anyone had the same problem in any bike.

Get the spark plugs checked.. did it rain or did you get the vehicle a water wash recently? check for Engine Oil level. The engine doesn't crank, right? are the electrical systems working fine? Why I am asking you is, it could be the ignition wire at fault in case there is no electrical system working.

      Cheers,

I had this problem that occurred very rarely, what I did was just open the seat, there you will find an exhaust pipe (black color one going out from a part, which is the autochoke). . . Remove that and see if the pin is proper/it's not gone, if it's gone replace it and also before that you can remove the screws of the exhaust pipe going to the silencer and try starting then, if the scooter starts, put a small piece of cloth or waste and see if it's right. . . If it's fine then remove the thing which I said is autochoke and try starting, you should see little fuel kinda bursting out, if it's so then clean it and place it back, also check the needle as I said. . . The bike should work fine after that. . .

PS: Sorry please understand this as I don't have a picture to tell you properly, but if you can put a pic here, I can show you what I mean exactly. . . If you got it already then it's well and good. . .

        Cheers!!!

Would you believe that the same scoot started at the first crank today. This just left me flummoxed, juxtaposed and flabbergasted .
I went and came back from office as if nothing ever happened.
But i think it will happen again sometime. Can it be adulterated FUEL by an chance?

Engine oil and electric system is fine ,I will still check the spark plugs ,will take it to the SVC for the ignition wire check as well.

Right now I am planning to empty the fuel and then try putting fresh the next-time it happens ...

IMHO, its a spark plug issue. IIRC, Scoot Spark Plug replacement interval is 1yr or 10K kms as per the service manual.

Bad fuel would give you different symptoms, I reckon.

if it happens ever again you could check for sparks by opening the spark plug cap from the wire and touch the wire to the metal part see if spark comes or not. Of course you have to crank/kick the engine for this. This procedure will make sure that for ignition current is coming to spark. This way you could tell the svc that current to the spark plug was not coming and they should check the electrical wiring for any cuts etc. etc. Otherwise when again everything would be solved on its own and then you have nothing to tell ASC about the issue happened.

pep has the fuel system which stops supplying fuel when engine stops i.e. when you will open the fuel pipe which is coming from the tank to the pump then to carb from there the fuel wont come when engine is off this pump is mechanical. Sometimes this system fails and it does not supplies fuel even when the engine is cranked although it is very less chance it would fail.

These are the issues i faced for 1 year when i bought the pep+ but after now 3 years every thing is working perfect.

Hmmm - I am yet to check the spark plug. Would do tomorrow, but fuel definately was not the issue otherwise it would have cropped up again since I near-emptied the tank before refueling.
Also I have crossed 100+ kms after that incident but still not getting that problem again.

That's quite some insight, will try that tomorrow.

I suspect this to be happening with the Scooty that i own. How can i resolve this?
