  • Help needed in choosing CBR250 vs Ninja 300

Wow!!never thought I would be posting anything in this section...Guys I need help in choosing between CBR250 vs Ninja 300.

I took a ride on both the bikes, and I love both of them. Nothing wrong with either of them. However, I am little hesitant to spend 3.8 lacs on Ninja 300 now, as it will mostly mean i wont be able to upgrade later.

But with CBR, I liked the bike, nothing wrong with it, however one thing that is holding me up is quality of After sales Service in Mumbai. While Bajaj provides average to Good experience, i have heard only horror stories about Honda.

Guys please help me out with it, please let me know if

    1. Newer lots are Niggle free, and engine doesn't give up on riding hard all day?

    2. Are there still issues with shims or engine packing up?

    3. How is the quality of service in Mumbai? Any recommendations?

    4. Spares availability?

Appreciate all the help I can get.

    Cheers!!!

    Query Approved.

For practicality and all rounder you can consider the CBR250R, Ninja isn't any bad either, but I think you'd have even more horror stories right from the first paid service part. I think, CBR is practical, affordable, and an all round work horse. Just my two cents worth.

    Cheers!

Thanks Bro for approving so quick. In Navi Mumbai & Mumbai, Bajaj/Kawasaki provide better after sales service.

Regarding Honda I have heard only negative things.

This is one of the important points holding me up apart from Engine issues in the past in CBR and lack of availability of spares especially shims going bad on frequent ripping hard.

I just sold my Duke 200 as its engine seized and I am too wary now when it comes to engine performance under hard riding.

Ninja's I know can hold up all day long without breaking a sweat, and can easily take all the beatings from a rider like me.

Part availability is worst for hondas as well as kawasaki

i do not agree on that part ... there can be a certain situation however parts needed for general usage and maintenance atleast for cbr are readily available.

Well Ninja would do higher speeds continuously for obvious reasons. But, any bike if ripped hard all the time would fail after some time.
I feel that's not the right way to ride.

Else, CBR is a more practical solution. Would give you a chance to upgrade later too
Most issues have been sorted out as well.

Re: Help needed in choosing CBR250 vs Ninja 300

              Comparing CBR250R with ninja 300
is inappropriate in many aspects apart from the capacity as quarter litre, by then its N300 next segment where its comparable with D390 or RC 390. Reason why as you all know, due to engine layout and its trademark inline-twin...

N300 doesn't really need for any performence upgrade(personal opinion) even at the later part. Because the stock setup is more than sufficient to bring all the grunt in every RPM
Whereas CBR250R may be just a bit ahead of D200 although D200 took the benefit of going passed CBR 250r in the low end rpm.
To me there is a huge gap between CBR & N300.

A very obvious question..earlier it was CBR vs N250 when I bought my CBR....now its CBR vs N300. N300 is a fantastic bike and now it has got the lower punch which makes it easy to ride in city. But Ninja loses out in India due to its high initial cost and expensive maintainance. If you can maintain a Ninja would suggest to go for it. On the other hand, CBR is a very practical city as well as touring machine. Low cost of ownership, good fe(i regularly get 2 - 34 in city), low sare parts cost are the plus point. Yes, there have been issue and there will be issues with every bike. It depends on the service centre to a large extent. I decided to face the problems that CBR had to offer and am a happy owner done 18000 kms. Now I think the shims need replacement. If you rip any bike it will get back to you with maintainance cost. Every machine has to be loved and it will love you back.

Re: Help needed in choosing CBR250 vs Ninja 300

Thanks guys!!!! In India i think it is absolutely fine to compare CBR25 and Ninja 300, considering you have very few options between them.

                  What about guys from Mumbai?

Are there any good service centers in and around Mumbai?

I will be booking on 25th April, and if I do not get clear views on CBR then I will just go ahead and book a Ninja.

With Ninja, I have not heard or seen any engine issues like shim replacements or seizures or leakage or seepage. I havent seen clutch plate going kaput or issues with the gearbox.

And I feel a machine should be used for what it is meant to. If it is meant to deliver power high up, then it shud be designed and made to deliver power up every time a rider demands.

Well the Ninja has proven it's self over the years to be reliable, though it's not priced well in India, it's your money, your call. The CBR is a fairly ok bike, though it's soft suspension feels like riding on a mattress, that's it's biggest let down. Personally if I were spending that much on a small bike, I would consider a second hand 650 either Kawasaki or the Hyosung.

Thats a valid point Stefan. But I have my reservations towards used vehicles. Also, I felt 650's were heavy and wouldn't corner or turn as easily as ninja300. 39 bhp of Ninja 300 is more than enough for me, and I also feel I can use those horses.

There you go, you have answered your own question, you will find the CBR underpowered after a very short time.

Chuck practicality, comparisons etc. If you can afford ninja get ninja. Period. You can't go wrong with it.

I don't feel that this is correct. Each biker has his own needs while choosing a stead and if this is done wrt to the requirements both man and machine can go on much longer as one.

Here in India if one can cruise max at a speed of 110-120 rarely. And in this case ninja would be able to do that much relatively effortlessly.

A very valid point...Most don't understand when I tell this (may be i dont put it as clearly as you did). They say if u rip, ur bike will die, but my requirement is I want a bike that can be ripped. Thats how I get pleasure while riding.

Seeing all the options I feel Ninja is solid enuf to take all the abuse. What say?
