Re: Restoration of Rajdoot Excel-T
Same as old rajdoot. 9-11bhp, 3 sp engine. Only the rd can fulfill what you are looking for. No cheap made of plastic toy comes close.Originally posted by Cleaner View Post

Re: Restoration of Rajdoot Excel-T
If you need insane accelaration then look no further than RD, still this bike is a beast and stands toe to toe with todays performance oriented modern 4 Strokes. The only problem is very low mileage almost zero spares availability and competent mechanics.Originally posted by Cleaner View PostHow's their performance, is it same as Rajdoot 175? If yes, it is not much of value to me. I;m looking for neck breaking acceleration which sadly, even Duke 200 can not fulfill.

Re: Restoration of Rajdoot Excel-T
Each and every spare for the rd is available. When talking about a genuine sbk mileage should not be in the conversation. Mechanics... Well you have to do it yourself.Originally posted by kusmaker View PostIf you need insane accelaration then look no further than RD, still this bike is a beast and stands toe to toe with todays performance oriented modern 4 Strokes. I don't think that we should call this bike a true Sbk, it's true that this bike was miles ahead when it was launched in 80s, give the people feeling of rocket like accelaration and locomotive like pulling power but still not like 800cc or 1000cc sbk's, mileage will always be a concern though every one knows that bigger engines or higher bhp engines drink fuel in abundance, as one can't use this bike on daily routine like an office goer, and if one is using this bike in daily routine he must have bigger pockets to fuel this bike.
Because you are saying i will believe that spares for RD are still available, are these spares genuine or aftermarket, because here in delhi none of the authorised spare parts dealers is having RD spares, and if you ask them for Rd spares shopkeeper will give you a weird look.

Re: Restoration of Rajdoot Excel-T
Brother, rd was, is and always will be an sbk. Read up on its history. It was built to destroy triples and fours on the track. It is still the only superbike ever produced in india.
Regarding parts, depending on svc is not what restorers should do. Every single and vital part of rd is available in india through importers and high quality replicas of body parts are manufactured in India itself. When you get out of the shadow of svc you step in to the world of aftermarket parts which sometimes gives you better quality than "stock".
A stockish rd gives a mileage of 15-20. I know many rd owners who use it as a daily bike. The only reason i dont use the rd regularly is because of the congested traffic conditions of my city which will eat up the engine.
Ps: rd was sold by escorts under the rajdoot brand. So you wont find any svc for it as escorts shut shop long ago.Last edited by Bibhu; 08-19-2014, 02:20 PM.HYPERTHRUST CLEARED AND COUNTING

Re: Restoration of Rajdoot Excel-T
No bro i wasn't talking of companies service centres obviously they won't be able to get you RD parts, i am talking of spare parts dealers, who are also not interested in selling spares of this iconic bike(at least for India).
If you are importing parts then one should have lots of money as most of the parts has to be imported from US (i think, correct me if iam wrong).
Yeah RD350A or (race developed) was launched in 1974 or 75 i think with 350cc model, this Rd had a successor RD 350B which yamaha brought to India in 1983, RD 350B was very successful around the world, but it couldn't repeat that kind of magic here and in the end Yamaha again made a futile attempt with Lt model to boost up the sales, but sadly nothing happenedl and finally they took the product of the market in 1990 .

Most spare dealers dont want to deal with extinct models. But there is a huge community of people in India who deal with 2-stroke parts.Originally posted by kusmaker View PostNo bro i wasn't talking of companies service centres obviously they won't be able to get you RD parts, i am talking of spare parts dealers, who are also not interested in selling spares of this iconic bike(at least for India).

Yes, parts are costly. That is the case with any high performance machine. For example, clutch and steel plates cost about 12,000 rs if you want high performance imported ones.
Ps:- Rd does not stand for race derived or anything else. Its factory code for road going 2t twin.

Re: Restoration of Rajdoot Excel-T
I think parts get costlier due to mismatch in demand and supply, there is a huge fan following of RD and Rx's hence everyone is making profit, even Rx100s parts are damn costlier, but the icing on the cake is that atleast you are getting the parts.
Bro i believe Rd does stand for Race derived as the Rd was designed after gaining technical expertise by yamaha through racing.
But whatever Rd name was in Rd it's still an brilliant bike although the top speed was just of 100m/h but the way you can achieve that speed was quite astonishing and that too in 70's and 80's , 100m/h is still an big ask even for Ktm duke 200, plus it gave Rajdoot company a chance of making a name for themselves as an motorcycle manufacturer.Last edited by kusmaker; 08-19-2014, 06:44 PM.

When it comes to rd, yes the parts are pretty costly. But that is mostly due to the stupidity of people anal about "stock".Originally posted by kusmaker View PostI think parts get costlier due to mismatch in demand and supply, there is a huge fan following of RD and Rx's hence everyone is making profit, even Rx100s parts are damn costlier, but the icing on the cake is that atleast you are getting the parts.

You should read this article.
There’s no evidence supporting the idea that the “RD” in the Yamaha RD350 model designation stands for “Race Derived” — but race derived it certainly was.
Rd top speed for us spec is about 95-100 mph. Indian ones hardly cross 130-140 in the condition they generally are. However, a well set rd can easily do 160kph.

Re: Restoration of Rajdoot Excel-T
Thanks for the link.
Most of the new age mechanics or new age generation is obsessed with 4 stroke machines, hence dearth of good knowledgeable mechanics in 2 strokes infact mechanics are not even good in 4 strokes, because of which engines are poorly tuned and performs poorly.
