  • Riding with baby and wife-safety issue

    Hi,

I own a Inazuma, and new family man i mean family includes my wife and 8 month old boy, and problems begin from here.
Earlier we both had good time riding our bike and still enjoy this very much.

Now the problem is earlier when we used to travel we trust our baby with family members and we two ride alone but due to change in family situation now we have to take our baby with us on bike though we are till now managing this beautifully and still enjoying the ride. Still i do fear sometimes, though this fear is subsiding slowly and will be gone after few more ride with three of us on bike .

But still i need suggestion and advice how i can make it more safe and generate more confidence for riding three of us simultaneously.

Don't tell me to hire auto or ride on car etc as I myself consider these option before every ride.

Hope people understand my situation and advice.

    Query Approved.

I think everybody's problem starts from here. (pun intended)

But jokes apart, I would suggest "NOT" to carry the baby unless he's able to self-facilitate or little independent on his own. Carrying a young baby, not only puts undue stress on the pillion as she's carrying the baby, also it'd be really comfortable for such a young baby to handle the stresses transferred from the rider and the pillion.

If you guys are planning for a ride, it'd be great to if someone can babysit, until the chap gets a little older, but at this stage, when the baby is just months old, my personal opinion, considering the safety of the baby and the pillion, would be no.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

im always against more than 2 people on bikes. 2 wheeler is for 2 people. my personal preference is just rider on bike in INDIA. roads are so pathetic in every aspect.
I'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.

Riding in india is dangerous Why even think of taking the baby
roads highly polluted imagine what it would do to that infant
body resistance is not much at that age
get a car (i read u dont want a car suggestion but that is the best)

There is nothing you can do, if you prioritize safety. Maybe it is time to buy a car, considering you own a Inazuma, you could afford at least a Nano, or a Eon base model. I think your question has been already answered by yourself, you said you consider buying a car before every ride.
BTW your mid life crisis has officially started

Well should say this mid life crisis started for me 5 years ago and officially had just ended.
My daughter has become old enough to sit on her own with her own helmet and coolers and taught dear wifey to ride her own.
Planning for a trip now on two rides.

Please do avoid triples. Completely unsafe for all three of you.

Get a side cart for your bike(Sholay inspired).
On a serious note, Get a Nano CX (Costs almost half of Inazuma). Sell it after 2-3 years, when your kid grows up. Come on, this little sacrifice you can make for your Family.
Considering you are riding your bike at max 80 KMPH with the baby on board, you can do the same speed on Nano with some extra comfort and safty.

First opinion would be definitely a NO. But considering your family crisis and other things...May be you can use a baby strap on carrier and have in in-between you both. Make sure you don't brake hard and end up squeezing the poor little guy

Re: Riding with baby and wife-safety issue

Well if there is none to baby sit then its better to quit travelling in a bike .
As new challenges come up we should change according to that staying with the old stuff is always risky .
Get a car or may be a SUV that's the only way to safely enjoy a road trip with a 8 month baby .
Seriously I can't even imagine the risk of riding with a baby, its not worth it.
If you still love riding to places then ride alone while baby with her mom can flies to the destination .

And not only the fact that riding with a kid on a two wheeler is risky, I would not even think of doing so, just because of the amount of smoke & dust Indian cities have, forget everything else.

Re: Riding with baby and wife-safety issue

I would advice you not to take any ride in this situation. I was in your place few years back. My wife would complain that I dont ride with her after my kid was born. So on a few occasions( less than 5) I took them for small rides. There is no way we can babysit the baby so we took the ride together. But the kid was more than 1 year old when we took the rides.
You can use baby carrier on your shoulder with the baby facing the mother and take small rides. Please ensure that the shoulder carrier is sturdy. Have seen shoulder carriers unable to sustain the weight of the baby.
But dont consider it as an advice, its your call.

So every body anonymously agreeing and advising for a car. I will not thank anybody for all this suggestion

XBHP the biking community advising for car while all those people themselves will enjoy their bike.

I was considering Eon Basic but was delaying it, but now i thinks its TIME. thanks for forcing me to consider this seriously.

But i am thinking that may be i can buy a car with help of finance option available in market but what about the guy who cannot afford the car???.

And it will take some time for me also considering the finance options, but till then will try strap on carrier. and driving very safely as best as possible to my best of skill responsibility. as baby sitting is not possible (family issues), we are forced to take him with us.

Any other option/suggestion which we are overlooking please advise.

For time being get a maruthi 800.You can get decent ones from 45k onwards. When you are ready to buy a new car you can sell it for maybe 40k.
                            Everybody wins.
Baby+bike..no way. What will you do when it rains?

No body is saying to quit biking get a car but its just the time when you are with the baby .
Getting a eon will again make you miss the bike even more get a used Ford fiesta 1.6 (under 2l).
                              Enjoy with the family .

Only other option left is that you ride alone while baby follows in a public transportation or a flight .

Once a biker forever a biker that can't change so don't worry .
