For 1 year I used Honda 10W30 engine oil. Engine was very noisy and pickup was poor with this oil.
So 3 weeks before I switched to Shell hx7 10w40 (semi synthetic) oil. Engine is smooth now and pickup is also improved little bit.
But gear problem stays as it is .

Shell Helix HX7 is a car oil which contains friction busters!
Use Rimula R4 if you want but drain that HX7 right now.

Sorry... typing mistake... Its Shell Advance AX7 10W40 (Semi synthetic), One level below Shell Advance Ultra 10W40 (Fully synthetic).
I am planing to try Shell Advance Ultra 10W40 (Fully synthetic)next time.

Ok, AX7 is good. Are the clutch plates fine? Do you rev a lot?

I am not sure about clutch plates, I never checked them personally. But after my complaints, recently one expert guy at service center opened the gear box and replaced the gear shaft.
But it didn't helped.
This problem exists since bike was new and came out of showroom. I was complaining about gear problems to dealer since then. But they ignored.

I don't rev much also. I drive normally about 17Km in morning (upto 60 Km/hr, rarely sometime upto 80 for 2 min when road is empty) and 17Km in evening in huge traffic (to much gear shifting happens). I treat the bike in decent manner. Only when bike was new, speed limit was not followed (limit to 40Km/hr for 900km). My roommate carelessly start driving it up to 60km/hr whithin 2 days of purchase. Did it matter a lot ?

Also just for information, I have seen 1 more post reporting exactly same problem at Honda Shine - Gear Sucks....

Honda shine has a short gear ratio, i've also honda shine and i faced the same thing. I mean the mentioned speed u changed the gear, after 35km in 3rd gear u have to shift to 4th. Otherwise u can notice the engine stress. I ride another shine for surety but the same thing exists in other shine..check your clutch plate from a reputed mechanic. you can use also Motul 5100-10W30, i suggest you pls stick to your engine oil grade. U can feel vibration after 55-60. pls share the other issues with your bike so that i can check the same thing...

Is it possible to change the gear ratio of Shine (by changing the front/rear sprocket size or by any other way) ? Have you tried it ?
This bike is totally useless for driving in traffic. While I am busy in changing gears, the whole world overtakes me reaches their destinations.

Mileage is around 55 Km/hr with Shell-Super petrol, which I think is not bad considering the driving situations.

I am done with my shine and going to send it to Mumbai for my younger brother. I think Mumbai is much hotter than Bangalore and 10W40
will be good for hot weather.

My next bike --> Suzuki Gixxer, going to book next week .

I too faced the same problem when i purchased my Honda shine in 2013. Now the problem is resolved and i am getting a mileage of 58-60km per litre in city driving.. Gear shift problem is usually faced by all honda shine users, there will be falseplay when you shift the gears from 3-2 or 2-1. and regarding the other problems you mentioned like chain noise and vibration, its also a common problem which was faced by me. Now coming to the answer

1. The false play or gear slipping occurs due to the false adjustment of the spring inside the gear box. I complained about this every time when i go to service centre during the first few months of my purchase, make sure u force them to do it as most of service centers just water wash the bike and say they have done the service.. Now my problem got resolved.
2. The vibration feeling that u get is usually when u touch the 50km/hr mark in your speedometer. once you cross that 50km barrier the vibration will automatically reduce, thats how they have designed it to get more economy out of the vehicle.
3. If you read the manual, the break in period of the bike is 500km, i suggest you to avoid using honda oil which heats up the engine, breaks down eaily and reduces the mileage. I suggest you using Shell 10W 40 ultra advance costing around Rs.750 which will improve the mileage and reduce engine heat.
4. go to a good mechanic who has knowledge on chain slack adjustment..if you drive with pillion make sure you adjust the chain by seating a person at the back..
5. If u have crossed 10000 kms , try using iridium spark plug from NGK..it will improve the torque and avoids cold starts.

Try following these and u will see the improvement in your engine within a week.

Hello all

i have been using honda shine 2012 model, since 4-5 month back it was running in good conditions, as i have been servicing it at honda workshop, but i am getting noise which is earlier not coming, after changing engine oil ( thought it may be solve issue) still problem persist, issue came after when bike was serviced by private mechanic ( he has tuned tensioner coz he told that timing chain is loose and right now tuning will do the job no need of replacement), since that time noise is coming and even though to identify exact problem i have shown it to different mechanic and they told noise of timing chain

so please suggest me a best solution for this... as this weird sound is irritating me......
