Re: Dropped out of college to pursue my riding

So the thread starter left the "University of Petroleum and Energy Studies", to tour on his bike. Great plan, you can be free as the bird without any boundaries or responsibilities to hold you back. Sounds awesome to me, till the petrol tank and your stomach have fuel and food respectively in it. What about the time when both of these go empty. How are you going to fill them up without any money. didn't think long and hard about it eh. did you??

This is a country where only 5% of the engineering graduates get a job after completing college, rest prepare for bank exams, and I can assure you of this statistic because I am a few of the luck and hard working ones who have a well paying job right after B.tech.

I too wanted my dream bike, so did I leave the college or blackmailed my father to buy it for me??

The answer is neither. I collected each and every penny I could save while I was in college. Didn't celebrate my birthday for 4 years, no new clothes or shoes for 4 years. Same old phone for 4 years. Then got a job and saved all my salary for 1 more year before I was able to buy my dream bike with my own money. This is what we call passion for something. You don't quit, you don't stop dreaming and you don't stop working hard. Every day gone is a day closer to your dream.

You think you can beat that by leaving the college and roaming around aimlessly.
Go back to college, its not too late.
Finish your studies, get a job, work hard, earn lots of money and then do whatever the hell you want to.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: Dropped out of college to pursue my riding

You must have got your answer after so many advises.. Everyone here has passion for riding/touring , and 15k experience is nothing to understand what riding is, its a deep art...
Besides, you don't leave anything suddenly in between, to do what you love, you must look for smooth transition from what you do to what you love to do, learn and understand more about riding and introspect on your thoughts for touring while completing your studies. Be very very sure whether it actually is your passion or just a wave.. I believe in one thing, "you'll eventually get what you want if you want it genuinely from your heart no matter how many problems you might face". So think on a long term basis, make a plan and you'll eventually get there.

Very True. Biking is one of the expensive hobby/passion if you are really following it seriously.

@insakshay - Brother, I am guessing you are in your 20s and life seems too much of an adventure right now. Don't get discourage though with the replies but everyone here is stating a fact. And anyways, why you want to drop out of college and THEN follow your passion? Do it while you are having your education. Go full time in travel industry when you are mentally and professionally prepared. Experience brings lot of weightage as well.

It's true that you must follow your heart but you must also prepare yourself for the future and find a most possible fool-proof way of pursuing your dream and excel in it.

All the best and yes, please go back to your classes.

Yes brother, I too am from Dehradun, just like the thread starter. and UPES stands for "The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies". It is one of the most prestigious Universities in India and the entrance test is very hard to pass.

I think only 2 of these exist in all of India, which makes it harder than IIT.

The reason I'm mad at him is that I am a pretty average guy, and I could not pass the entrance to such a good university so I have to make do with a normal college and have to work really hard to get through it and get a job.

And now I see a guy who is intelligent enough to get into such a good college but then decides to leave it all for shit. He is not realizing how lucky he is to get education from such a good university.

And he left it, to roam around .

And here I am, sad that I chose the medical line by doing MSc in clinical research. I wish I could have done mechanical engineering or related field to fuel my passion for biking and I come across this thread where a guy quits a college that I'd sell my soul to get into. :O

Now that a veteran like you appeared, I am certain in every aspect that the TS has gone back to college to take notes & home work.

Judging by the subject, I really thought this guy was an upcoming hyper talented professional track racer or something... Done 15k kms he says ... Even if someone did own a motorcycle touring company and is looking to hire, why would he hire you?

                            Oh... and welcome bro.

Someone asked for a troll guru. I feel that the thread starter was one. Started something silly and fictitious and now sitting and trolling on all the gyan we are giving

I for one am finding it hard to believe his story. Remember a similar one where someone claimed to be an IITian with an AIR of under 100 and was making a fool of himself.

Buddy, I'm sure you don't want to offend him. The guy has won numerous National Championships and has done reasonably well in Asia and elsewhere. We have talent but racing needs huge amount of money. Unfortunately in India sponsorship has always been a concern.

Have you heard of the guy called Sarath Kumar? India's first motogp rider. Poor lad has to turn to taxi driving to support his passion. Isn't it a sorry state? I cried on watching his interview along with him and the host!
