    Yes, k&N definitely needs up-jetting!

@Paven - Some facts for you.
The Fiero uses a 26mm CV carb with a 97.5 main jet and 12.5 pilot.
Its the same carb (minus the secondary diaphragm) which comes on the p150 and Apache 150 and also the RTR.
      The p150 has a 107.5 mainjet (Dtsi V1 onwards), apache 150 - 102.5 mainjet and RTR uses a 105 mainjet.
In no ways will using a Fiero carb will give any benefit. I'm sure it was something else that your friend did then.
The p180 already has a better BS29 CV which has a larger venturi and offers better high end performance (although the pulsar ports are a dud for high velocity).

O.T - Damn, no one has built a half decent fast pulsar...including Bajaj. I wanna do up a really fast pulsar man. Lets see how it holds up.
Last I did was a p180 with only head mod (stock valves and main jet and stock filter too) and it was beating the pulp out of a stock karizma in a drag. I wanna do some serious tuning on a pulsar someday

        ^^ With just porting?

I am waiting for you to mod one. Would be helpful for us to know how far that engine can be pushed.

Not porting as in enlarging stuff. I changed the port geometry completely to increase the port velocity and did a few other stuffs. It was a p180 DTsi V2 with the roller cam. It was nearly 2 yrs ago and that bike belongs to xbhp member only . It still kicks a p200 and karizma.
Ask bajaj to give me a pulsar with funds. I'll do one

Changed the cam profile too I guess?

I've only worked on cam profiles for my Fiero, karizma and R15. All my other builds have run on bone stock cam.

Thanks for the info! Even though I do not currently have much knowledge about porting (except how smoothing the ports to a mirror finish helps) someday I may try my hand at it!

well as far as i read on many places the technique is called Port matching so as to reduce turbulence in exhaust gases and hence better escape of gases when coupled with a good free flow exhaust...

When you install K&N filter in a bike, you are altering the dynamics of the bike. By allowing more intake, you are producing added power in turn more exhaust gases. So you also need to look at exhaust system and braking system.

                                1. Purchase K&N air filter.
                                2. You might need to remove the air filter box completely.
                                3. Purchase main and pilot jet of P200/P220 as suggested by mechanic. Few mechanics enlarge the hole in jets. Check if your mechanic can do this.
                                Additional mods (optional)
                                4. Change the spark plugs to NGK (iridium is not necessary).
                                5. Change the ignition coil and HT coil lead for added performance.
                                6. A FFE exhaust would add marginal power.
                                7. A good braking system (i.e) new pads/steel brake lines would keep safety in place.
                                8. Run the bike for few kilometers and check for correct tuning of AFR with the help of spark plug color.

Verdict: This mod is not recommended as many members who had done this mod complained of abundant engine contamination resulting in busted engine head and eventually reverting back to stock setup.
