  • Coolant for Avenger Street 220 - required or not?

    Hi Guys,

I have been driving a Avenger Street 220 for the past 6 months.
During the first service, the oil change was done and then the mechanic proceeded to add a Coolant from a small sachet.

However, during the second service, which was done on a different service center, I was told that there is no coolant required for Avenger Street 220.

    I am really confused now.
Can anyone please suggest me if a coolant needs to be put in Street 220 or not ?

    Query approved!

As far as I know, Avenger has an (air) oil cooled engine, so coolant is never put in it. Owners, please let me know if you own a liquid cooled Avenger.

What the mech put from the sachet during first service was probably a de-greaser to keep the internals clean. That thing is not needed for new bikes and one must insist on not putting any additives in the tank or with the engine oil, unless absolutely necessary.

Hello there, I've been using Avenger 220 since last 6 years. It's confirm that avenger (any model) doesn't require coolant. NEVER PUT IT IN THE OIL COMPARTMENT. It is an air cooled engine.

As far as i know Avenger street 220 is oil cooled (I think its Air+oil cooled). My big bro owns an Avenger 220 street model. I will Ask him and will be back with the update about coolant.

You are right. 150 street is air cooled, I.e., the cylinder head has fins that dissipate heat to the air flowing over the fins just like other motorcycles like Unicorn. 220 street and cruise are basically air cooled too, but in addition to that, engine oil is cooled in a tiny radiator. This cannot be compared to liquid cooling like in the NS, where there is a "jacket" of coolant mixture (water+alcohol) surrounding the cylinder and other internals. Hero ZMR is another air and oil cooled bike.

Do not add coolant in any of the avengers.

What they might have added might be an additive - his bill will reflect that.

Hello TS.. I am pretty sure P200 NS was the first bike of bajaj to get a Liquid Cooler.. The Avenger 220 uses the same engine as the P220 and has an Oil cooler which doesn't require any liquid coolant.. Can you please go to the SVC and ask the mechanic what he had used?

Till date only pulsar 200NS RS and AS has got liquid cooled engine. Which requires coolant to be added in the radiator reservoir..and as far as avenger is concerned it has got oil cooled engine in which oil is passed through the radiator to cool down the engine and hence there is no need of a coolant

He probably added some sort of engine oil additive during your first service. It is not required and they generally add it just to increase the service bill and earn more profit. Both yamaha and honda ASC offer these additives to me on my every service visit. They claim it helps engine to run cooler, cleaner and smoother. From my experience its absolutely waste of money and is not required.

Re: Coolant for Avenger Street 220 - required or not?

Thread starter, the bike is not liquid cooled, its air cooled. The mech added engine oil additive to the bike. It is said to make the engine more smooth and the engine oil lasts longer. Cannot confirm that it works as said or not. But is does no harm to the engine. Its your choice you can ask the mech to add it or refuse to add it. There is no harm in adding it and no loss in not adding it.
Don't worry your bike is fine. Enjoy your ride.

                    Hi Guys,

                    Thanks for the replies.
It is possible that I am mistaken and that instead of a coolant the mechanic had added an Additive during the first service.
I will check if I can find the bill and let you guys know.

BTW, can anyone tell me what's the use of additive?
Is it required every time I do an oil change?

An additive is a combination of materials that "promises" an improvement in combustion and smooth-ening the engine operation, but most of it is farce. You can safely avoid it from the next time.

As stated above coolant or any types of additives are not required. I asked my big bro who have Avenger Street 220. I think you got your answer. Anything else and you can always ask.

                        Thank you.
