Re: Which Wax to choose ?
Very helpful thread.
Just want to add a thing. When I park my bike in my office and cover it(for more than 10 hr.s), I have to put up with a lot of sarcastic comments from some co-workers just because I have covered my bike! This is not only in office but almost everywhere I cover my bike to protect it from scorching April-May sun or heavy rain. I've often heard comments that I am doing a bit too much by covering my bike as if only I have a bike and nobody else has!
But tell me, after all the hard work done to wash/polish my bike, am I doing too much by not letting my bike be at nature's mercy? Couldn't help posting my experience as 2 days back I got into an argument with one of my co-workers regarding the same.A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Krishna these comments from your coworkers are very common, these things do happens , i have also kept my bike covered from the day i purchased it, and i use to hear these types of comments from everyone, people will keep saying this or that, so just don't care it's your bike and you are maintaining it, you are not asking from your coworker to maintain it.

Re: Which Wax to choose ?
Hi Guys, Just love this thread. Amazing pool of experiences and choices. But very confusing too. I have bought Yamaha fz-v2 black just a week before and needed some guide on keeping it clean and shiny. Though i got it teflon coated, but i dont think it was of good quality because there are many visible scratches on the body. So now i want to invest in some good quality shampoo and wax polish for it. Please help me out. I went to market to do some research. and found two choices for shampoo one is 3m and other is Formula1 both i am getting for almost 300rs. What i am really confused about is polish. There are liquid and wax based polish from 3m, Meguair, Formula1, ArmourAll, motomax, soft99 and many more. Please can anyone shed light on difference between liquid and wax polish and which one is better and also tell me which one to buy. I dont want to spend alot of money but wont compromise with the bike too. So a good balance of quality and cost is preferrable.

Re: Which Wax to choose ?
Collinite not available in my area. And for shampoo i only have 3m and formula1 to choose from and do i need a polish and wax both for painted parts? and dashboard cleaner seperate?
For dashboard cleaning i was provided with 3M car care cleaner. I guess my main concern is with the wax or polish only. Do i need to buy both polish and wax?

Regular waxing (every 2 weeks) forms a thin protective layer over the surface of the bike, and prevents small scratches. Different people find different brands suitable for them.Originally posted by mohitgoyal707 View PostCollinite not available in my area. the formula1 wax is quite good and widely used, so you can go for it, most people are satisfied by the quality.
You can also buy small 20 ml pouches of both the brands and then see which one gives you the best results, then buy a big bottle of whatever suits you best.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: Which Wax to choose ?
It depends from person to person, some people do it weekly, some in 2 weeks, others in a months.Originally posted by mohitgoyal707 View PostSo washing and waxing is recommended to be done every 2weeks?Or shorter time interval?

I prefer to do it once in 2 weeks, that too if the bike looks too dirty, else just wipe it with damp cloth.
I would suggest to take care of the chain as well, because it is exposed, it gets dirty and caused rough drive and drop in mileage.
A clean and well lubed chain makes the drive butter smooth and increases the mileage. Get a chain cleaner and lubricant spray for your bike and clean the chain after every 600-700 Kms. Here's a link for the same.

Re: Which Wax to choose ?
Can i ignore the cleaning part, as i had mentioned earlier, the service guys dont clean the chain before lubricating, if i have to clean the chain, then i would need to get both motul clean and lube and i heard that fz v2 needs chain lubrication almost after 3000kms. This was told to me by the yamaha dealer and the yamaha service guy. Whats your take on this?Originally posted by Ankey View PostIt depends from person to person, some people do it weekly, some in 2 weeks, others in a months.

Re: Which Wax to choose ?
Well, if you dont clean the chain, it may result in rough drive and drop in mileage. And yes I'm afraid you have to buy a chain cleaner and lube, but you can choose any cleaner and lube combo. There are cheap ones costing 500 bucks for the combo. Try it. As you said the service guys dont clean the chain, then it is all the more important to clean it yourself. After all its your bike, from your hard earned money.Originally posted by mohitgoyal707 View PostCan i ignore the cleaning part, as i had mentioned earlier, the service guys dont clean the chain before lubricating, if i have to clean the chain, then i would need to get both motul clean and lube and i heard that fz v2 needs chain lubrication almost after 3000kms. The mech that said - 3000kms gap for cleaning the chain it talking rubbish. Please check your owner's manual, the chain needs cleaning every 700-1000kms, to ensure smoothness. The service guys in my city do do clean the chain properly here. So maybe if you ask your mech to clean it first, he will do it. All the best.Last edited by Ankey; 08-16-2014, 04:50 PM.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.
