brands i have use:
Waxpol
formula 1
sonax
Amway
turtle
meguiar
turtle comes 2nd in the race, meguiar is the leader
meguiar is very expensive, gives the almost the same finish as turtle
turtle can easily got from the US,pay the premium worth itLast edited by arvindraju; 05-14-2009, 07:43 PM.

Dude, thats why I asked for an elaboration.
Frankly I like/don't mind the oily/wet finish.... esp. if its protecting well! Silicone is supposed to be better at repelling water, detergent washes, etc. I think it might be better at beading water too. So methinks it might be worth a try, esp. in monsoons. Whats more it seems to be totally non-abrasive, so can be applied frequently compared to the other polishing products like Formula 1 Wax etc.
But as you said, it might not suit all shades or your personal tastes. I feel its worth trying out, esp. given the attractive price, compared to the other expensive products.
Since you have used to many products, which one do you think is better at repelling and protecting from dust? And durablity?

let get it straight ... all waxes surfaces do attract dust, with the dusty indian roads its bound happenOriginally posted by Raccoon View PostDude, thats why I asked for an elaboration.

end of the day,wat matters is protecting your painted surface from scratches & keeping it fit
for me meguiar is always a leader, good shine & neat clear coat finish,no side effects on paint covers the swirl marks well, they have been in this industry for long. its always the premium when it comes to waxing segment
turtle comes next, not far behind meguiar, wat i like about it is finish, neat glossy surface, hand slides through like knife on buffer(if waxed under proper wax),keep the shine for a atleast 10 days if without rain
wat i found in turtle is,its easier to blow away the dust on top of the wax surface compared to meguiar
Note: Turtle Imports have been officially stopped in india (comes from the mouth of importer),wat you find is old stocks
Best Automotive products i have used:
Shampoo: Sonax Car Shampoo
hard Wax: meguiar, next is Turtle wax platinum
liquid wax: Turtle wax Colour Magic
Plastics: Stp Son of Gun / Armor All Protectant
Chrome: meguiar Chrome Mag Wheel Polish
Wax Applicator: meguiar soft buff
Rust Protection: a diesel wash first & a spray of ACF-50 (used for control rust in fighter jets in the US)
our Xbhp member 'Speedpujari' said Chrome & alupaste is good i am yet to try it out

I just got a sachet of Waxpol's Vinyl & Dashboard polish. Was going to apply it to the plastic parts of my bike... but backed off after reading that its for interior use only!Originally posted by rohitmundra View PostToday got myself 3M liquid wax polish and a waxpol vinyl and plastic polish sachet...
appled the same..and the results were too good.

So its use on bikes is not recommended. Also it does not claim to protect plastics from fading due to UV, etc. I'll stick to Formula 1's dashboard cleaner. Even Waxpol's Protectol seems to work very well for this purpose.
You were right. Waxpol's Silicon Polish is not goodOriginally posted by arvindraju View Postnot good

...at least not on automobiles. If someone likes the oily kinda look, again, Waxpol's Protectol is better (compared to the Silicon Polish).
Turtle products are nowhere available here.

Does anyone know of a shop in Chennai to source a decent range of detailing products? I tried formula 1 wax and im not satisfied with it. Its probably fake, but that's not much of an excuse if so many shops stock the same thing. Was also looking around for waxpol or turtlewax's metal polish for my chrome rims but had no luck. Im not too comfortable with using abrassive products like brasso\silvo\brite-o, etc.
Please do not recommend "any automotive accessory shop". I tried multiple and they really do not know the products they have, and try to palm off inappropriate substitues for items they dont have.
To summarize, is there a specific shop you would recommend in chennai which has a decent range of 3m, sonax, waxpol and turtlewax (which i guess is out of the picture now) products. Also a source for microfiber cloth would be nice.
I created a similar thread on another forum asking the same thing, but the one post which had shop names and addresses seemed to be outdated. When I went to the aforementioned shops, they did not seem to exist and the locals had no clue what i was talking about. Even the companys' websites seem to be inaccurate when it comes to retail locations.
@arvindraju: where did you get the acf50 from?
Thanks in advance.Last edited by Grease Monk; 06-09-2009, 12:02 PM.

Thank you for your reply arvind. Yes, I have been to GP road...but there are a LOT of shops there. The ones I checked out only had a limited product range. I was even getting weird looks when i asked for chrome polish. One shop sent me to another which ended up being one that sold building paint. Im hoping that someone here from Chennai will have more information on it.
Will check out the stuff from mother's. Seems to be plenty of them on 20north.com.
Again, thanks for the help.

Any wax that protects and is not abrasive... and is not too expensive.Originally posted by arvindraju View Postwhich turtle wax product your are looking out for ?
Even though that seller on Rediff may be good, I wouldn't want to patronise a site with dubious trade practices. It seems Rediff even doctors buyer's comments, puts in its own comments, etc., etc. What is more, most of the stuff online is overpriced.
Grease Monk, Waxpol's metal polish is available here in some shops. You could try asking a good shop to get it for you, or try and contact Waxpol directly. I tried emailing them several weeks back... no reply.
If anybody has used Waxpol's metal polish, do let us know how good it is.
Is Brasso abrasive?

get the Turtle wax Platinum series (hard Wax)Originally posted by Raccoon View PostAny wax that protects and is not abrasive... and is not too expensive.
Is Brasso abrasive?
i reason i choose Turtle wax over other brands is :
* its a very old brand
* is not abrasive
* does not leave a oily finish unlike 3M or Waxpol
* Bleeds or repels water well
i am on a hunt for a good rim cleaner....tried hunting down for sonax chrome & Alupaste never found it
i use diesel to remove the tar & carbon residue from the rim. need something to polish the rims. tried sonax rim cleaner ...hated the smell & found it harsh
any recommendation for rim cleaning ?

Many people have recommened Turtle to me... but its just not available anywhere. So no use.
Will always keep an eye open for it though...
3M Liquid Wax leaves an oily finish?
In fact I just bought a bottle of that (exactly same bottle as shown in the pic above). Haven't had the time to try it yet... hope its good enough. Cost Rs. 80/- Its made in India though. It dosen't claim to protect from UV either.
The qualities most imp. for me in a wax/protectant are:- Should prevent fading from sunlight
- Should protect paint finish
- Should bead water well and allow settled dust to get dusted off easily
- Should last a decent while & not get washed off easily in rain, water washes
- Should hide fine scratches as much as possible
- Should be non-abrasive for regular use.
I recently tried Armour All Wax and Polish bottle (Rs. 400). It fails miserably on the last point above - it actually makes all the small scratches stand out even more on my old bike! Waste of Rs. 400.
F1 carnuba paste is much better and cheaper!
You definitely seem to have got a fake. Else F1 Carnuba paste wax leaves a really good shine. It is however mildly abrasive and so not for regular use.Originally posted by Grease Monk View PostDoes anyone know of a shop in Chennai to source a decent range of detailing products? I thought so as well, but desperate times...Originally posted by arvindraju View Post^^^ no issues as always
20north.com is a reliable site, thing is they are VERY expensive & not worth the price

I have heard good things about waxpol's metal polish. Im not sure if the sunny(boi) i know is a member of this forum, but he swears by the stuff for chrome, second only to the stuff from turtlewax. Yes, brasso is abrasive. You can even feel it when it dries up after the initial application, its a fine powder.Originally posted by Raccoon View PostGrease Monk, Waxpol's metal polish is available here in some shops.
