Are such polishes ( Armorall ) safe to use on plastic type surface for bikes such as FZ-16...arent these meant for cars with a metal body ?...FZ-16 and its descendants are mostly made up of plastic fiber or something..?Originally posted by inder.cool View PostThe same one i and NV are using for our respective bikes..!!
And it really works wonders..
Will give you an example, the day we polished the bikes..it was looking spanking new..and went for a ride that day to our normal meeting place..!! A ZiMA owner came to us and actually praised the shine on the bikes and asked which polish we were using..!!
Is there any other polish suitable for such bikes..or say the FZ 16 ?

Wax and polish differences and uses
Hi all,
Most of the people confuse and use the term wax and polish interchangeably. They are not the same.
Polish would contain atleast a trace amount of abrasive that would remove a fine layer of oxidation from the paint surface. Using the polish often will eventually lead to spoiling the clear coat or paint surface.
Wax:As the name suggests, forms a layer and protects the underlying paint. This is very safe for any painted surface and is non-abrasive (Be careful not to use any cheap or fake brands as they may contain chalk powder as abrasives).
From my personal experience I would recommend turtle wax paste that comes in green plastic box. You can also try the turtle wax liquid classic which again comes in a green bottle.
Wax pol car wax is also good, but I feel turtle wax is better.
As a thumbrule you can go for any carnabua based car wax and they should be fine. liquid wax is easier to apply but wont wont stay for as much time as a paste wax.
The best wax I had come across was one from ICI paints. It used to be super tough applying the paste and needed a lot of time, however it was worth the effort as the wax would stay without fading for many months.

@srikany, I think you have mistaken polish for rubbing compound. Polish has no abrasives in it. It is the rubbing compund that has abrasives. Polish creates the shine on the paint surface, Wax protects that shine.Originally posted by srikany View PostHi all,

Get a Buffing/Polishing machine instead. They are not too expensive. You can buy a good one for around 2k. I have seen the ones used by PBK Service guys. That one costs around 3.5k-4k.Originally posted by rkboy View PostHi.I had some queries on buffing.
Can buffing of clutch case, engine be done by hand?i.e., using a rubbing compound and soft cloth similar to waxing?
If so which is the best compound and what type of fabric material should i use for rubbing?
ThanksSTOP Honking - START Riding

Are you talking about buffing of Enfield bullet rkboy? If yes, from my personal experience I can say yes. You can do that provided you have the patience and the time. You need not use a power tool for this.what you need is a good rubbing compound, emery paper, aluminium polish. and a lot of elbow grease

rubbing compound and metal polish
---Originally posted by saurabh.jain View PostHi can you tell me what rubbing compund to use, as for polish i use silvio for the engine casing
I have used waxpol rubbing compound that comes in a green plastic bottle. Silvo is a good polish for aluminium, however the best is Autosol metal polish. The only downside with autosol is its high price tag.

My bike is red pulsar.. bought in Aug 2005..paint is still as good as new. I use MOTOMAX Wax polish evry 2-3 months..
But thats not the thing that keeps the paint as good as new..
Its me!!
I always try not to keep it in sunlight as UV will fade the paint away.. Also I am the only one in my office to cover my bike in the parking lot , if I need to keep the bike in sun for more than 2-3 hours.
