  • Riding Jacket Lost In Transit

    Hello,

I had ordered my first riding jacket about 2 and a half months ago, online from a reputed seller from South India. The owner sent the jacket through Speed Post service (Tracking ID ET078059613IN) and alas i have still not got that jacket. The tracking info shows that it was received at Palam TMO on 18/09/2016 and after that there is no clue of it. I am intentionally not mentioning the company or owner's name so that people should not straightaway start thinking negatively about them.

I inquired from the owner on phone and he said that he would file a complaint with the Postal Department. The postal department told him that the complaint could only be booked after 15 days from the dispatch date. He did so and lodged a complaint with them after 15 days. A month passed by and nothing changed.

In the meanwhile I also hash-tagged Postal Department on Twitter with the tracking ID and they said that they would get back to me soon, which they have not till now.
I sent some more tweets as reminders and I guess on a couple more instances they said that they were sorry for inconvenience and they would get back to me soon. Nothing happened.

In the meanwhile, I also sent my friend from Delhi to Palam TMO which was so difficult to find and believe me finding its phone number is a challenge of the highest degree. They were at their usual best and said they need to have the bag number in which item was shipped. My friend told them that how is he supposed to know the bag number and its they who should be finding it. Somehow Palam TMO employees sent an e-mail to the post office from where jacket was shipped, requesting them to tell them about the bag number and in a few hours they reverted back and wrote them back the bag number in which jacket was sent. Still, they were not able to find it.
I called Palam TMO people, again told them the bag number and the employee attending to my call asked someone and put me on hold for sometime and told me that they have not received that bag at Palam TMO. The tracking info however showed that it was received at Palam TMO (now they have removed this information from tracking page but I have got the screenshot of the same when it showed that it was received there).

I sent whatsapp messages to the owner stating that we need to do something about it. I got no reply from him. I called him a week ago and told him that its about 2 months now and I have not got the jacket . He said that he has been filing complaint reminders to postal people, every week since then. I somehow believe him as he seems to be a decent man. He told me that he would decide something on it on Tuesday (22/11/2016) as he was going for a ride and would be back by Monday. I have not heard from him yet.

I am feeling frustrated and seek your suggestions on how to proceed further. Should I sustain any hopes of getting that jacket or should I do something else?
    Please, help.

    Thanks in advance.

Its a bit Off Topic, but seeing your situation, I'm sure members will help you out. A courier service would've been better than this, although I never ever had a problem even with Postal service.

Hi Nucleus, that's quite an ordeal for you but let me see if I can help.
Speed Post is considered safe due to various reasons and I use the same and they don't charge ridiculous amounts either. I don't prefer courier services unless necessary.

But for now, you have 2 options and I would want you to exercise them both!
      1. Register a complaint at the grievances portal (has helped me twice) - :: Grievance Redress Mechanism in Government ::
      2. Shoot an email to these IDs (Nodal officers India Post) - [email protected] and [email protected] while keeping the seller in cc.

        @Divya Sharan @psr
Thank you. I know its not the usual topic but I am looking for help and thought this might be the best platform to seek it. I was also wondering that if owner is charging for delivery charges then why doesn't he opt for courier service? But again even he said that this is the first case of its kind that he has ever come across. My bad luck Thank you once again for approving the thread.

Thank you so much! I hope this proves to be helpful as it has rekindled some hope I will write to them asap.

For two days I tied to call the seller in order to ask him if he has got any clue abut the parcel but he did not take my call. I have called him 4 or 5 times in the last 2 days. Now I have registered the complaint with Grievance Redress and also sent emails to the two ids given by Divya Sharan. Strange enough I could not find the e-mail id of the seller from their website. That's why I could not cc the email to him. Let's see what happens now.

The mode of payment was online transaction through credit card. I am not mentioning the jacket name or brand name intentionally here for the reason I have mentioned in my first post in this thread.

Okay. Did you try contacting the payment gateway? i think in this scenario they're the only ones capable of issuing a refund. since making sure the product reaches you is the responsibility of the seller and almost all the websites i know national or international refunds money if it didn't happen.

                Hope you get your refund.

Have you read all terms and conditions of seller? Because i have seen many sellers of riding gears clearly states that they are not responsible for any delay, they are only responsible till shipping the product. After reading this clause I make sure that they ship from a reputed courier company because tracking a private courier is easier than speed post.

Let me share you one incident, I ordered viaterra claw and seller shipped it through speed post but I didn't got the package within estimated delivery time. I searched for the package and I found that package was lying at my local post office, they couldn't delivered it by saying that package was big.

That is ridiculous on postal peoples' part! I could imagine Claw being a bit too big for them but they refused to deliver even a helmet to my cousin too and asked him to collect from the post office as it was big.

Seller may be hand in gloves with postal people as nothing unusual in India which may not likely happen. Not picking up calls is usual with individual sellers. Since you have not received the item you have chance to get full refund. There is no harm in disclosing the brand, seller, full address and contact numbers. Members may be able to post clues in help.

After reading mknaidu11's comment I decided to give a last try to call the seller and this time he picked up the call. He told me that they have decided to send me another jacket which will be sent in a day or two.
                          Now lets see what happens

you have to know which payment gateway you've used at the time of purchase, for that try buying something from that site again and see which payment gateway is used, like ccavenue or icici bank's etc... don't pay though

After knowing the gateway, contact their customer care and let them know what's happening. Im not saying it will work but its worth a try mate.

Finally, I have got the jacket that seller resent. He said that they would bear the loss. But even after my request not to send it by speed post this time, they again sent it through speed post and I had to go to the post office to collect it. Strange are their ways!
