    Hi,
Could someone tell me where I can get a K&N airfilter fitted "PROPERLY" in Chennai and in Bangalore ( somewhere near Koramangala/Indira Nagar? BTM? JayaNagar) for my 180.
Also, please tell me the approx costs for the RC1060 and fitting charges- just in case.

You can call Sohail in Pune at 9970717867. He can supply the filter at a lower price, plus instruct how to install it on the bike. I am getting mine from his later this month.

            FItting problem

            Hi guys....
I got the filter for my UG III for 1550/- bucks with fitting( plus I asked him for a few more K&N decals-- he gave me 3). But I have a question. Those guys fitted the filter directly on the CARB. Is this alright? They took just 10 minutes to remove the stock filter box and fit this on the carb. Is this the right way to fit the filter???
I feel my engine has become really rough after this. Gear slippage also seen. And many times, the engine just goes OFF with a "PHUTT" sound. As though air supply has completely stopped.
I am using Castrol Power 1 Racing( synthetic oil) and I have done almost 4800kms now. My engine & gearbox have become different now. I have done some 16000km on the bike till now. Is it time to change the oil or could there be something wrong because of the filter.

yes, teh filter needs to be fitted directly to the carb... making a hole in the stock filter and fitting the filter is not advisable.. and where did u get it for 1550... u really got a buck bang!!!... i got it for 1750 a few months ago...

Well ...as per my expirience i went for R1100.(P200)

Performance and smoothness has increased. So far there isnt any issue.

The only issue i am facing is that..the engine is heating a lot.And that is obvious because more power more HEAT.

Anyways i did not faced any other problem apart from that.

                Cheers

@CoPlay and beruoist: Haven't u guys heard of the term re-jetting? If not pls google for it. And just FYI, more power DOES NOT MEAN more heat!!!!

Hi Aparajith... Sorry I dint mention that I haven't upjetted the Carb. That was because I am already running low on mileage. Its like 38-40Km in Bangalore. When I am in Chennai, I get a decent 41-43kmpl. Please tell me how much will y mileage decrease if I upjet? I think the 180 runs on 17.5mm jets.
Also, my engine heats up too... a lot. Is this because of the low viscosity of the synth oil I am using???

I got the filter for 1550 ( with fitting) at Hardeep Auto Agencies, GP Road.
And yeah... 4800kms is not too many kms while using a fully synthetic oil I guess. It should last atleast 5.5 to 6k kms... Maybe thats what I heard. If I am wrong, please correct me.

Re- jetting or upjetting ....whatever it is.It is done. But still the heating problem is on.Also to ensure there is no problem with the engine.I had done engine work as well.

AFAIK..If you produce more power than the engines capacity then it is surely going to overheat.( P=k*T^4)

Can you please explain "more power DOES NOT MEAN more heat" why are you sticking on this.Explanation based upon K & N functioning with your expirience will be better (no google pls)

                        Cheers

@CoPlay: Mate, if u use K&N ur letting more air in,. which means u screwed up the stoichiometric air:fuel ratio. Set that right and ur heating will reduce. And if ur so concerned of mileage, junk the K&N and stick to the stock filter. The 180 BTW uses 117.5 main-jet. U might lose out 1-2 kmpl at the max. As long as re-jetting is not done, ur vehicle will heat up no matter what oil u use!

@Beruoist: A K&N is no way a means to increase or push the boundaries of an engine's limit. And again, it does not affect the heating characteristics IF and only IF it is properly jetted. Agreed, that the heating could also be due to other factors like clutch wear-out etc. And a K&N will not produce more power, it just helps in better breathing so ur pick-up or power delivery characteristics may improve. So technically it should not heat ur vehicle up. I was using K&N for a really really long time dude. And never have I faced any over-heating. And just FYI I was also running the A 200 bore+piston @ 210 psi compression. And even MT-01 is air-cooled, do u say that it does not produce enough power?

                            @ Aparajith

Yes i am aware of the fact that,K & N just increases engines breathing capacity (without any resistance). So with increased air we need to balance the air fuel mixture. And here comes jetting in the picture.

Yes,may be improper jetting is resulting this or may be R1100 is more than enough for P200.

BTW i am getting enough power. The problem is just with the overheating.
Not sure why do you ask that "do u say that it does not produce enough power? "

But i will still stick to that " MORE POWER MORE HEAT".

@Aparajith : I agree with you... I was just a bit confused how much of a drop i would have in the mileage.... what size jets would u recommend me to re-jet to? And about the NGK's( IRIDIUM). will they do any good to the combustion process. Will it be noticable? I sometimes feel that the engine just cuts off with a PHUTT sound. A feeling like the AIR or FUEL has just stopped.
I fitted the filter and the next day I rode from Chennai to Bangalore. After that I find my bike so different. After 75kmph, i get a funny sound from the engine.. Vibrations have increased ( they had decreased after i put the synth oil).. Do u think its time for an oil change also?? 4800kms with Synth oil. Is it too much?
