  • Jerkiness on low fuel

I own an apache rtr 160 4v. Whenever the bike is about hit reserve it jerks as in the bike rpm goes on and off even though the reserve light is not on. Is it a signal of low fuel or something wrong with my bike? The jerkiness goes away on filling petrol. Or something wrong with my speedo console?

Believe it or not, my 1.5 month, 2200km old 200 4V has the same exact issue. ASS just can not figure it out, and it's prevalent among the Race Version 2.0 and 160 4V owners only. The launch 200 4V model does not have any such problems as per the ASS.

Although it is a sure sign of 'about to hit reserve', and it does give me peace of mind to know that similar thing shall happen when I'm running out of reserve (Must. Not. Test. Assumption.).
I'd rather not have it though.

I have this kinda problem but I own a P220. When the fuel level goes down and is about to hit reserve, it becomes harsher. It's a Pulsar so there's jerkiness all through and I've accepted it happily [emoji23]
It's the harsher engine feel that gives me Rs. 5 worth of tension.

It might be that they have some issue with the reserve valve or that the fuel tank isn't properly designed to deal with low fuel level OR that the visual indicator isn't well calibrated, I hope it rides okay once you change the valve to reserve.

since another owner of same bike has confirmed the same issue, its a problem with the bike.

P220 is fuel injected, fuel injection sucks up the fuel, I read somewhere that it needs at-least 2-3 Ltrs of fuel to make the FI work as it has to pressurize the fuel for injection.

Do check if water has entered in fuel tank.

But it works fine, when in neutral.

That's visual indicator calibration issue then.

Please explain what does that mean?

Simply put, when the fuel shows low on your digital meter, the bike starts to jerk. But when you swap to reserve mode, its works fine.

This means that the jerking is due to the low fuel itself. So, all you have to do is change to reserve. Though, what seems to be the problem is that on the digital dial, the fuel does not show as completely low or res, so its just a calibration issue in the instrument.
