  • Hyosung ST7 spark plug access

    Hi all,

I bought my ST7 three months ago and I recently hit the 1000 km mark. The place I bought it from wanted £140 (I'm in the UK btw) for the first service. No way was I paying that, so I decided to to it myself. I have a background in aircraft maintenance, so changing oil/filter and checking nuts/bolts and wear & tear is no problem for me.

HOWEVER, I can't find any info on how to remove or lift the fuel tank to get access to the spark plugs. On another forum someone said that they accidentally snapped the fuel hose while trying, so I don't want to just go in there and have a go.

Does anyone here have have any tips/advice on how to safely lift the fuel tank without causing any damage to cables or the fuel hose?

    Much appreciated,
    Chris

      Hi Chris,

DIY Queries do not get much response on Indian forums especially when it comes to expensive/big motorcycles.

Anyhow, the procedure is pretty much straight forward, just like in the case of the Honda CBR250R and we had gone in blind on that motorcycle, the only thing to note is to make sure to not be hasty and take your time as fuel sensors and lines are connected at the base of the tank and should be disconnected before pulling the tank all the way off to avoid breaking anything, and be ready to plug the fuel line port once its disconnected.

Here's a link to the workshop manual of the ST7 http://avengrid.com/HR-PDFS/ST7.pdf

Download it and refer to page 162 on how to get the tank off.

      Cheers,
      A.P.

Thanks AP. That's a gem. Just what I was looking for. All I could ever find was the little users manual that come with the bike.

        Cheers,
        Chris

It isn't difficult to do a DIY on a motorcycle. Irrespective of how big the motorcycle is. I was initially afraid to pull out the fairing kit and tank of my Ninja 250. However, I took the courage and went ahead when I badly needed to drain the Coolant on my Ninja 650. Now it is a piece of cake for me.

few things to keep in mind.

          1. Be very patient
          2. Handle with care
          3. Remember where the bolts and screws go.
          4. If you are unable to pull out something, go for another check to see if you have pulled out all the screws and bolts.

All the best for your DIY and please do share pics and videos if possible of your work. It could be of help for someone in the future

Re: Hyosung ST7 spark plug access

Hi Chris.Just came across ur post. Did u manage to remove ur fuel tank?
It was I who snapped the fuel pump plastic connection while lifting the st7 tank. There is very little clearance for disconnecting the fuwl line when you pick up the tank. You need to slide ur hand in and press the spring loaded catch to release the fuel line from the pump. After that its a walk in the park. But why do u need to touch ur spark plugs on a new bike?!
Only thing u will need to do is change the oil and oil filter.all the best.its a pleasure diying the bike.
Make sure u change the RR on ur bike soon though. Install a shindegen mosfet RR designed for the st7. I had installed this 5 yrs ago.The OEM RR is a weak link on this bike.
