@moeed: when i topped with shell,i had 3 litres of BP normal unleaded.topped with 10 litres of shell

3 litres of BP+ 10 litres of shell -> octane numbers would still come into play ?

It would be an uneven combination of fuel. As I said earlier, empty the tank and fill it with shell and check how it works. If it is not good then stick to BP.

I dont want to take any risk.... I always use normal Fuel when I fill the tank for long rides and add 50 ml of 2T oil in the tank.....
        I never faced any problem....

            Hi,
I know this thread hasnt been active for sometime, but this thing about shell petrol seems shocking.
I have a GS150 and i've been filling only shell normal petrol,(done 2k kms till now)
as usual even i notice roughness in the engine and little vibrations, especially when engine is warm/hot.
cant really comment on pick up as i've filled BP only once.
But with BP i got FE of 40, and with shell its 52-55.

Could the roughness be related to the shell petrol itself ??
Because the service people said the bike engine is normal.
I thought shell was a good petrol all this while.

I am quite surprised to know that bikers are having issues with Shell petrol.

I have been using Shell Unleaded Petrol from mid-2007. I have filled only in Rajbhavan Road (Hyderabad) outlet & Ganganagar (Bengaluru) outlet. Ofcourse, stopped using Shell in between when they stopped retailing normal Unleaded petrol. My bike did not like 'Premium' petrol

My bike (RX100) defnitely feels a lot smoother on Shell Unleaded. Example:- Couple of weeks back when I did a Bengaluru-Mysore-Bengaluru trip I filled petrol from an IOC pump on the outskirts of Mysore. Immediately there was change in the way engine behaved. It was rough.

Only other bunk which comes close to Shell quality in my experience so far is IOC COCO near Manyata Tech Park.

@Aravindraju:- In the next service maybe you can consider getting your entire fuel line cleaned.

EDIT: I extract 14.75kmpl consistently from my Alto 1.1 from Shell Unleaded petrol.
My RX100 used to give 33-37kmpl again on the same fuel. Of late it has reduced a bit though.

Now a days,i'm feeling shell petrol is not at all good for my bike
it gives average of just 30kmpl. Engine runs rough.
other than shell, my bike gives average of around 35kmpl with any other petrol.
With BP petrol, average goes to as high as 43kmpl with same type of riding. engine runs lot smoother

Somehow even I found shell petrol to be on the lower side to me..

                  1) Engine runs rough
                  2) very bad FE

got back to IOC & it is all good for now.. no problems what so ever..

Hmm, guess my engine running rough is directly related to shell
and i thought shell would be the last reason to make engines rough

I've been using shell for 1700km and my bike has done only 2000km.
would there be any permanent damage from using shell in my case.?

Chill man.. their is no damage nothing.

try filling with different places & stick to one you find the best.

I for once normally fill in IOC near Ramakrishna Ashrama.. the FE difference was almost 3-4k kms in Highway with same style of riding compared to shell + I have a card of IOC through which I get some points everytime I fill the petrol so I stick to IOC only

Shell unleaded( not super Unleaded) IMO is the best fuel available in the market. I have been using this fuel in my Fz since the past 1 year now. Of course, the Fz has a fairly smooth and refined engine so I have not experienced any engine roughness. Also, as far as possible use 20W50 mineral grade of oil by Shell or Mobil/Motul...from my experience these three brands retain oil viscocity making the engine run cooler. Again this is from my experience and my riding style.

i have been filling normal and premium Pre Mix(3%) in my RX100 since 1 year. Have never felt engine rough. I get 29-30 when i fill up with Premium and around 28 with normal. i have not seen any change in FE when filled up with IOC,BP and IBP.
I think since i use Pre Mix i dont feel anything.
                          May be
Shell Oil + Shell Petrol = No roughness
XXX Oil + Shell Petrol = Roughness?
Bikes don't spill oil, they mark their territory.

                            No.
                            that relation cant be right.
I use shell advance oil+ shell normal petrol.
                            Roughness is still there.

And the roughness part was same with the veedol oil before this too.

Nope. I have been using Yamalube+Shell Unleaded, I don't find it rough at all.

                                Dear Mr. Girish,
Thank you for taking the time and effort to write to us. At the outset, I would like to categorically state that the problems experienced by the person are not due to Shell fuel. We maintain a rigorous QC process to test our fuels along the supply chain and have put in place fool proof controls that help us deliver quality fuels to our customers.
Shell fuels are formulated with special detergent additives which help clean out inlet valve deposits, which can lead to better responsiveness and improved fuel economy. These are Shell proprietary additives which have been developed by Shell to aid engine performance by protecting from wear and tear/cleaning out deposits. Shell has over 50 years experience in the research and development of fuels and this knowledge helps us to ensure that our fuels can help keep your engine in top condition for reliable performance on the road.

Without complete data, it is difficult to ascertain the reasons for the problem faced by the person. The processes we follow to ensure quality make us extremely confident that it is not due to our fuels.
We look forward to serving you on our forecourts again and are sure you would continue to benefit from using Shell's international quality fuels.
                                Best regards
