I decided to take Avenger 200 can any one suggest me should i go with it?

I don't think any company is using semi-synth oil as standard, including Yamaha (they fill Yamalube semi-synth in my R15 coz I ask them to). They are all using mineral oils&the grade will be mentioned in the manual.
As for your different oil preferences, I would say stick to the mineral manual specified oil for atleast 2K kms. before trying something new. Mineral is recommended for SBKs as well!

this is very true ... but where things go wrong with bajaj (atleast in my case) was @ first service ...make sure they pour in 20W50 oil only

they will just say castrol... ask them in specifi variant of castrol they are going to use

But I read somewhere here that the Bajaj guys use the semi-synthetic engine oil even for the 1st service. That's the reason I asked about changing it to the Castrol Activ X-tra. So, should I change and use a non-synthetic oil if the Bajaj guys use the semi-synthetic even for the new bike?

@ipilot777: Yes, your bike will come with the standard oil grade mentioned in the manual. I recommend sticking to that for the run-in period of 2K kms. After that, you can switch over to a suitable synth/semi-synth as per your preference.

Yes, you need to follow speed&RPM restrictions during running in. It is very crucial to the life and smoothness of your engine. The instructions will be written down in the manual.
Anything out of the manual is subjective!

Since new engines are much more prone to over heating, I suggest you stop your new vehicle once in every 50 kms. or so.

About rear disc brake, I feel it doesn't make much of a difference as the drum brakes work fine. Moreover I am not in favor of aftermarket mods. If you like to mod your new vehicle, it is upto you.

@hell_glider: Test rides vehicles don't feel too good. I suggest you take a test ride of a well run in Avy 200&then decide. In any case it will not be as free&high revving as your Yam, but since it is supposed to be a cruiser, you will really like its nature once it crosses 65-70kmph.

Where can I find Philips X-treme Power in Bangalore? Is it really worth changing from the stock ones?

Do I really need to follow the speed-limits during the run-in? A friend told me that these days most bikes come with seasoned engines, so maintaining speed limits initially is not required...any thoughts about this?

How many kms can I ride at a stretch without giving my bike some rest/stop? And finally, your thoughts on getting a rear disc brakes on this bike...?

Chain has got nothing to do with the engine buddy!

most bajaj Avengers i have seen comes with 20w40 oils which is not recommended 20w40 oil was poured into my engine after first service

i had it drained & got a 20w50 oil... engine is way better now will get better with more drives

also most common complaint in the avenger is vibration (mirror @ high speed) even with a showroom stock bike,needs a good mechanic who can fix this ... with the fixing done no known issues on the bike

Few other points:

chain on the avenger is slightly difficult to maintain (thicker & bigger than the pulsar),with a diesel wash,cleaned with motul chain cleaner & motul lube will keep the chain away from dust & in good condition

Avenger is one with a lot of chrome,people in coastal areas have a complain of rust..get your bike treated with Acf-50 www.acf-50.co.uk/acf50.htm,you will have no issues with rust

Stock Bulb is not good,go for the philips Extreme power.,you will light up the road

apart from that no other modifications are required,its the best budget crusier available in india

i completely understand and agree. my rx-135 is obiously very free revving. but thats what i mentioned in my post. i did not expect the Avenger to be as free-revving. but would the difference really be that much. it felt really tight.i hope i am describing this properly. can't think of a better way.

don't you mean its the other way round ?? the avenger should be much higher on torque.

exactly that arvind. the exhaust wasn't sounding clean. it was a extremely muffled sound. every exhaust has a particular beat and rhythm right ??? well..i couldn't feel that.

yeah..i am looking forward to speedpujari's inputs as well. i saw a photo of his bike here. seems really well maintained and spanking clean. plus, as per the photo, it looks like he does a good number of trips on his bike. given that is why i am looking at the Avenger, his inputs will be useful too.

comparing an avenger to a RX 135 is not a fair compare
Rx 135 is a 2 two stroke city bike with high torque & avenger is a crusier meant comfortable drives with low torque

coming to your observations
1. nope bike is not sluggish,test bike seems to be @ fault..engine does get better after first service & a oil change

^^^ dont know what you meant here
3. gear shifts were bad .... again ??? yes avenger does have the problem of a neutral,some people complain of not being able to find nuetral things is people dont complete the shift & try bring directly from say 3rd or 2nd to nuetral... that the way things dont work,its one drop @ a time. i guess coming over a RX Gear to Bajaj Gear Box has taken a Toll on you

any day a Yamaha Gear is better designed from a Bajaj Gear Box thing with bajaj is ... you will take some time to get used to it ... say 100 kms (thats wat i took)... now really comfortable

engine does get better after the runin (2000 Kms).... i am sure this will be same views of other avenger owners here like Speed Pujari

a Cruiser within 1 lakh with Reliable engine ... nothing Beats the Avenger in this segment
