well i am the one of those who always ask u for ur ideologies and guidance joel sir ....... but err

the sad thing is that some people consider working on bike ' s engine as labour work ........
they say its a job of low class mechanics ..........
      and all such talks

another problem being people think its not worth it
i ve heard people recommending ,,,,, instead of thinking of playing with ur engine and spending uselessly on researching is a bad business
      wht if u fail
      wht if u blow off!
give ur bike to a mech
      he ll do the work!

i have seen people spending like mad guys for cosmetic modification but dont want to spend even 1 / 3 rd of it for engine work........
they dont want to pay the tuner for his research and hardwork and say things like " salla RS 1000 ki cheez pe mod job pe kam karne ke liye RS ** le raha hain!..... sirf item bike mein fit hi to karni hain !"....
they just can see how its easy to change a filter and jets,
still if given to them cant do it ,
but dont know what hell it takes to get a right combo of jetting for the setup..... heck if a amateur tuner has to research,,,,, only different types of carburettors cost...... some or most manage to get them from scrapyard or some other means like from friends rotting bike etc, its a different story
but it also costs somewhat.......and consumes valuable time!
and carbs are only a part of the story....... many more things to look into

now whats wrong if the tuner is expecting a reward for his piece of work?

one day definitely i hope things including MYSELF to improve
Hope is a good thing ,
may be the best of things and
no good thing ever dies .

Exactly, dude. People just don't seem to know what they are talking about. At most they just throw some terms around and feel they know it all. As for me, I am not any sort of expert in engines, but I do know enough to appreciate what others are doing with their engines and also to realize when someone just claims to produce significant improvements seemingly from thin air.

At OP - dude it is not possible to increase power "from 17 to atleast 23 or 25 bhp" just by using K&N filters and iridium spark plugs. Heck, these mods are not even known to provide any noticeable bumps in power just by themselves without any other supporting engine mods like increasing cylinder compression and re-jetting the carb.

          Gone through the whole thread
I am a newbie dont know much about engine mods , before being in here I too wanted to do a lot of cosmetic mods for my bike after going through all the advices and suggestions by senior members I got to know that there is a reason why the bike is designed the way it is by the engineers and designers and its foolish running behind and spending hard earn money behind these stuffs that doesnt give anything to your bike.

all being said, written and read I found this place the most helpful and any knowledge I could gain is from here and not from any other place.
I request all the newbies in here to read through the universal threads and other threads from the senior members get at least some basic knowledge before posting there queries.

A request to senior members to guide us(newbies) advice and tolerate us even though we sound foolish and ask you people useless and pointless questions ..

Thanks to all for your support...

I have a karizma 08.. now there is no doubt that i love this bike's performance and i daily use it for around 30 kms.. Now i feel the urge to compete with better bikes being launched in india having better power and performance aspects.. I know karizma has been dominating since the past 6 yrs but now i want the era to continue.. i am lookin forward for upgrading my bike's power from 17 to atleast 23 or 25 bhp.. i checked out from the local customization shops in bangalore..
they asked me to get the following installed:
            1)Iridium spark plugs
2)they said some rear power cable(it gets the iginition rate 10 times higher although this seemed somethin interesting)
            3)a k&n filter model rc1100.

however i don wanna bore d engine when ive jus hit 8000 kms on the odo..
kindly suggest me some options and if u think the above features will help my bikes power output..
you can go for iridium plugs and kn filter ... change the main jet in the carb with a plus size .. this will certainly give you some good mid range ... apart from this when your sprocket change is due decide on the factor if you want a higher top end or more initial pickup.. if you change the number of teeths in sprocket in rear.. you wll see the change.. these mods are enough if you dont wanna touch the engine ... all these mods does make difference when done correctly and the engine remains in good shape as well..

Naah ..... I do not consider myself, even nearly knowledgeable enuff to call myself a tuning guru !!
I mean the subset of xBHPians (like Joel and Atul), who do have a substantial knowledge !!

Anyways, I'll shut up now. Coz my post didn't nearly have the same effect as I intended it to have !!

s/w guy : There is a method in which you can route the exhaust gas into the engine directly and you will get twice the power easily. (bugger was refering to a turbo).
I could not control myself and burst loud. I simply walked away from there.

                \

so true people know BS about tuning poor sods played too much of NFS !

i suggest a puny little single cylinder engine is better left untouched .
enjoy the 17 horses while you can and a bigger bike is anyday better than a unreliable tuned bike .
KnN filter comes nowhere close to real tuning

increasing power output from an engine is relatively easy but making it street-able and reliable is another thing .

as for spark plugs and spitfire cables
you will just be wasting one grand .

Hey guys.. thanks for al dat uve shared specially joel i agree wid d fact that nowadays ppl jus wanna tune or customize their bikes facially without any knowledge..

Its jus dat m willin to explore this agenda abt tuning.. i really thank u guys for ur suggestions.. i know its any day better to keep ur 1 cylinder bikes stock.. but jus that the adrenaline rush eats away your ability to control yourself from doin these things..

I am a lil under-knowledged that i believed such things.. Well but i am definitely not an ignorant so i came to u guys for help and inputs.. Wel i am also interested in the mechanics and the various aspects of engine performance and m pursuing my career in this field..

I need to get more practical and enrich the ideas and my thoughts and become a wiser man.. So i am glad this community helped me out..

and atul i totally understand ur point too.. its jus dat i felt that my bike had the potential and i have to somehow bring it out.. so i really needed help from u guys..

Wel so now i believe i was spending 3 to 4 grand for nothing.. But if u cud help me understand the concepts of tuning and upgrading.. Id really appreciate that.. thank u guys!!
