This will work if ur lab is still a puppy and u train it , small rides is ok .
But not a long 1 mate.

training an older dog + weight of 30+kgs is like a big no no.
    Its risking it 4 u n doggie.

i have a dalmation and he keeps on jumping

i dont think i can balance him on my RTR :P

the must be very well trained and our bikes tank should be like a R1 to make it sit comfy
if you have a non gear then its the best

Beaware, riding with pets on two wheeler is a punishable offend.
And if animal rights organization comes to know about your plan, then you might meet Menka Gandhi on your way And rest of the story we all can read on various media.

Just out of curosity, would you be able to see ahead with labrador sitting on tank, unless you are very tall.

Could you post a photo of you with labrador on splendor.

Adding to this your Dog should be wearing proper riding gears like this one

On a serious note: Small rides in mornings or late evenings on rush free roads are okay but try to avoid riding with your dog in your bike. Any mishap will be detremental to both you and your Dog..

                  @ srinath

is no one there at your home who can take care of your dog
or some friend who can look after her till you complete your trip

i guess that is why you are asking this question
if you not thought so.... please consider above options

if both fail ... i dont have anything to say

So much for the gyan and preachings to the poor guy. There is nothing wrong in taking a dog along with you when you are on a bike. If one can take their children along then why not their dogs. For most, a dog is a family member.

                    Ok, here is my take.

Buddy if carrying your dog so important and you are willing to spend some and make some compromises, try fabricating a SIDE CAR with seat belt suitable for your dog.

                      hey friends ,

your positive responses have inspired me to try this out so i tried it today just roving the bike @ 10 km speed and my dog was comfortably sitting, though shivering a bit, it was just a 5 mins drive but slowly i think i can do it.

If any1 from pune city has tried the same let me know i would like to know how to train my dog so she does it perfectly.

she is a just a 5 mth old lab, so i feel if i teach her now then it would be good for future.

                      Regards

                      Shrinath

This has been perhaps the most amusing query that I have approved since the time I have been a moderator, here, on xBhp!

Yes, we see people carrying their dogs with them sometimes (on movies, TV shows, etc.). I have also wondered how do they actually train the canine to be so patient and more importantly keep it's balance while on the move. Although, it can be done to a certain extent, but I doubt whether the dog can really take the toll of touring extensively with the rider, on the motorcycle.

P.S: If you do manage to get the Lab trained (Labs are after all one of the most intelligent of the dog breeds), do not forget to get him/ her a quality lid!

hi aryan i would like to know what kind of lid are you talking about is that the normal petrol lid or something different

Srinath, why don't you try a tankbag, if the dog can fit in it? It will give a nice fencing to the dog so that you won't have to worry about it slipping off.

Thats good. Short rides in traffic free areas are fine. Even your dog will enjoy it once once she gets the feel of it..
                          Good luck

why? are you trying to set a record. i love my pets enough to not have them balancing on a moving vehicle for a long time and over a long distance! i shudder to think what would happen if i were to have an accident with a pet on board a bike.

Any pet will become agitated and scared and will try to jump off .... I don't think this would be the best thing to do.
