IMO, even if you can get reverse gear fitted, it would be of no use cuz I'm sure it would be next to impossible to maintain your balance with the bike moving backwards..
It might come in handy only in cases where you need to push the bike backward, & physical force itself is insufficient..

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

IMHO,I think the mod is not worth it....

It is useful for huge&heavy bikes like the Goldwing, where it may not be possible to physically back the bike.
A waste IMO for light bikes.

C'Mon guys! He never asked if the Mods would be worth it or not! May be its a science project heck!
One faint but distinct memory that I have about the reverse gear is on my friends dads Norton 500, that thing was what I could ever fantasize about when I was a kid! phew!

I am no engineer, so have no idea on how it works, logically it would happen when the gear moves in another direction, so maybe technically it is possible by using a smaller gear sprocket which moves the other way round as it is attached to the original gear! Uggh am too bad with all this!

I guess there are better guys around to help you with this!
              Cheers!

you yourself mentioned it as awkward topic
try getting a reverse cog modification from Bajaj Autorickshaws. May be that might work but that would be too powerful and un-necessary for a 2 wheeler(But don't have any idea if it could be fitted in a bike). Else design an electrical motor gear shift like seen in BMW's.. But keep in mind the extra weight it's gonna add to your bike

I think on the Goldwing, reverse gear as such is actually a separate motor, not a gear in the gearbox. Hope that helps.

A couple of months back, a letter was published in BI where a guy had made his own small bike with a reverse gear! There wasn't any mention about the working though.

I dont think reverse gear is possible in an indian make two wheeler,, if at all u want to add a reverse u have to change the entire gear assembly as there wont be any space left for an extra gear wheels,, so to do that u may have to design and build your own Gear box-crankcase unit
So forget it and live happliy

but if i can change function of first gear and change its motion to oppsite it can be done without changing whole gearbox
